Here's an interesting tactic I thought of recently, and decided to experiment with in this hand. When an opponent makes a small or medium sized bet at a flop, make a small raise with just about anything to see how the opponent reacts. If he shows weakness (e.g., by only calling the small raise, then checking the turn, as happened in this hand), make a substantial bluff on the turn. If your opponent reraises you on the flop, then you just fold your hand with a very small loss, otherwise you've gained valuable information and have increased the size of the pot that you'll probably be able to steal relatively easily.

I call it the minraise steal, and it happens A LOT at higher levels such as 600 NL on Party
BR now: $106900
Playing now: $10/10/20 - $20/40 NL live, $10/20 NL full ring online, $10/20 NL 6-max online, $20/40 FL 6-max online, $100/200 FL live
Goal: $125000 for $25/50 NL live

I do this quite a bit, especially with an opponent that bets at a lot of pots and seems to be stealing small pots regularly. It is a move you have to have in your arsenal for playing against certain players.

I do this A LOT!

The game is all about finding information about your opponents and making your play accordingly. How else do you find information apart from raising?

If you just called his flop bet then he was sure to fire another barrel on the turn. Nice play

I think my trouble is that i do this a little too often. The more observant players start getting wise to it after a while and i've had them call my reraise with a monster and then check the turn.......gits!

But, on the whole this play works for me. i just got to learn to be more selective with using it.
pocket Jacks eh?

CANT WIN WITH 'EM
CANT WIN AGAINST 'EM
CANT FOLD 'EM

DSaxton, you are my hero. Tried it in the pot below with good results. Takes a little bit of guts, but for some reason I sensed weakness and moved in for the kill. Awesome!!
