After a couple weeks that ...
started with losing 20% of my small-timer's bankroll in one evening,
proceeded with losing 11 SNG's in a row,
and continued with me scraping and clawing day after day to post additional losses or barely-mentionable gains equalling pennies-per-hour pay,
I finally had a turn around.

I got 2nd in an SNG and made good with a couple ring games, and am within $7 of my high-water mark with my bankroll.

I had to share this hand -- it wasn't my good play, but sure felt good anyway:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (6 handed) converter

CO BIGstack ($30.70)
Button MustacheName ($8.40)
SB MediumStack ($12.85)
BB sadguy ($9.90)
ME ($10.90)
MP HangingInThere ($3.25)

Preflop:
ME calls $0.10, 1 fold, CO BIGstack calls $0.10, Button MustacheName raises to $0.40, SB MediumStack calls $0.35, BB sadguy calls $0.30, ME calls $0.30, CO BIGstack calls $0.30.

Flop: ($2) [3s], [Kc], [3c] (5 players)
MediumStack checks, sadguy bets $0.50, ME calls $0.50, BIGstack folds, MustacheName folds, MediumStack folds.

Turn: ($3) [3s], [Kc], [3c], [Ks] (2 players)
sadguy checks, ME bets $0.10, sadguy calls $0.10.

River: ($3.20) [3s], [Kc], [3c], [Ks], [6d] (2 players)
sadguy checks, ME bets $1.00, sadguy raises to $8.90, ME calls $7.90.

Final Pot: $21

Results in white below:
sadguy has Kh 6h (full house, kings full of sixes).
ME has 3h 3d (four of a kind, threes).
Outcome: ME wins $21.

sadguy said, "unreal"
sadguy said, "what a bunch of crap"
sadguy leaves the table
ME said, "yeah -- it's been a long time"

Only two hands better than sadguy's -- KK and MINE!

Thanks for listening.

Hey good job. Its great to look up at the flop and see 4 of a kind. One question though - would you usually call a preflop raise like with 33? Were you a little pissed at the time or is it just that im too tired to be operating a computer. Either way, good thing you called that. Im sure you would have been really pissed to see what you threw away.

I really appreciate your comments. Here's my thinking:
Calling a preflop raise w/33 -- I have 1/8 chance of connecting with 33 for trips, and will frequently take down a big pot when it does connect (at least 8x the raised pre-flop pot), especially when the opposition is holding KQ or AJ hand -- usually a raised pot. If it doesn't hit, 33 is easy to get away from (unlike 99 or TT.) I've had sneaky low trips smack me plenty, in spite of my own PFR while holding two face cards. If I am successful in limping in, fine, but my opposition may then have sneaky hands too, or are more easily scared off their hands.

10 cents on the turn -- I could have checked, or bet more.
I didn't want to bet more -- I thought opposition should be afraid after I called his raise on the flop (he did have that crappy kicker,) And hoped he thought I had a king or just one three. I was afraid to merely check the turn, as sometimes that screams BIG HAND. I was hoping for opposition to check raise me there on the turn, like he wound up doing on the river.

Am I off here? Thanks again for the comments.

Might as well check the turn. That's 1/30th of the pot. What's the point? Either check or bet fairly big.

Greedo017 is on a distinguished road
i think you should call decent bets with low pockets. trips hit 1-8/9. so long as his stack is at least maybe 15 times the size of the bet i'm calling, i will call it. less if there are more callers. and this is usually true. in a .10/.20 cent room, an average raise is say a dollar. this is only 1/20th of an average stack, making it an easy call. in your case, 40 cents was only what, about 1/25th of his stack? easy call.

Hmm..I see. Interesting theories. I can see calling with a pocket pair against a small raise and hoping for a hidden set - almost exactly like my post in the strategy forum. Usually if I havent already called the blinds with a pocket pair, I fold the low ones to any decent raise
