im in late position with AKs, one guy raising and all the others fold, I call, the flop is Qh 8d 7s, and the guy bets a big one (potsize), im putting he'm on a pair of queens or possibly 3 of a kind Queens. anyway I call, another queen comes up, then he is checking and I check to, (afraid to get beaten by a trips) we continues to check the whole way to the river, it turns out he only got 2 pairs, sixes and queens. i was thinking i should probably have folded on the flop, but what kind of a guy is raising on low pairs anyway??

Flat calling on the flop and checking down is a horrible play.

Passive players get eaten alive. Raise or fold and I say fold especially since you read him for a pair or better.

how big was the preflop raise - if it was small, i'd re-raise there. Also, possibly if you had a read on the player you might have seen a preflop raise before with a low pair?

I'd say in late position with AKs you can easily put in 4-5BB so if the raise was less, then pump it up. If he still calls, and you see him bet out on the flop and you have Ace high only, i'd say get out. Just remember AK is a slight underdog even to 22...

It seems fairly often if there's a raise and re-raise or call preflop if I'm there with AK I'll be on guard, and call if the raise isn't too large, and if it goes to the flop and the bets are big then I get out (if i have nothing) as the chances are pretty high that someone has a pair.

Either raise him off on the flop or fold. (Or call the flop and raise him off the turn.)

Simply drawing with 2 overs is silly when he bets the pot on the flop.

You´re calling a big flop bet not reading a bluff, that means you´re drawing to 6 outs which has a chance of roughly 25 % to hit on turn OR river. To draw on that hand, you would need to expect to get more than 4 times that bet in return if your A or K hits which I don´t think is the case in this scenario. I f he had 66 he would fold to a big bet, and the hands that he would call with would probably be better than yours.
