Hypothetical. NL25 table on stars or something.
You're dealt in UTG+1. UTG raises it up to $1.25. Hes got me covered by about 20BB's, and I'm 15BB's deep. Assume you have 100 sample hands with villian and he has been 6pfr/12 v$ip.
Do you fold to his large preflop bet? Call simply for set value?

Full ring or 6 max. How likley is it to be called around and a flop seen, or are there aggro donks behind you?
If you can see a flop, call and go for set value. He's AA or KK from UTG with those stats.

I don't get this at all. You're 15bbs deep? So you have $3.75? You don't have enough to call for set value. Pushing here is pretty bad as well. Folding would be the best play in this spot. Am I missing something?

Reload. That shortstacked it's either shove or fold and I fold. Even if you were full-stacked, villain doesn't have enough behind to give you implied odds to call for a set, so it's a fold there too.

Fold and reload
Unless you meant $15 instead of 15xBB.
In that case you barely have enough implied odds to call

I'm sorry I should have clarified, when I said deep I meant + the max buyin. So I would be at like $28.50 and he would be at about $35.

in UTG+1 with such a small pair facing 5xbb, generally fold
if the table's been so passive that I think it's 1) unlikely to be reraised I would consider it. Depends whether you're comfortable playing poker with UTG+1. If J64 comes and it's heads up, you're facing a 2/3rds pot bet what do you do? Your answer to that question has a large effect on the equity of calling here.
with the right player/table read you could conceivably reraise, or call. with no reads, i'd fold. just too many players to act
with 77+, I'd call/reraise.

it's a crime to fold here to a nit's 5bb pfr at 25nl. i don't understand why we are having a discussion about this. this is an EXTREMELY STANDARD call every single time.

unfortunately i haven't played 25NL for a long time
my biggest problem with the hand is the combination of the poor position and the pair is so low.
what do you do when someone wakes up and pumps in a 25BB raise? Your odds are shot.
when you hit your set you're still liable to a bigger set or getting counterfeited with the puny 33. that and our nit villain could well just have a missed AK.
I think it's not worth the trouble, but that's just me.

Our position doesn't really matter too much in this hand as we most likely will not be continuing past the flop if we don't hit.

You fold obviously. It's not like that happens a majority of the time or something though. You just fold - no big deal.
when you hit your set you're still liable to a bigger set or getting counterfeited with the puny 33. that and our nit villain could well just have a missed AK.
If you're not going to play small PP's for sets b/c you're afraid of getting a bad beat or set-over-set then you shouldn't play poker IMO. And yes, he could have a missed AK. He could also have an Overpair or TPTK or 2 Pair or a Combo Draw...What's your point?
I think it's not worth the trouble, but that's just me.
What trouble? The trouble of calling 5bb's pre-flop for a chance to win > 100bb's if you hit? It's really not that much "trouble."

right. nit + 25nl = pretty likely to pay off usually.

See a flop, play poker. Fold like 90% of the time you miss. Every now and then play back at him with air.

they think a flop call turn call line by us is a good excuse to get it all in on the river.
