here i'm looking good but can easily be up against a higher kicker, and that's why I fold on the strong bet on the turn.
*in general, how do treat situations where you may very well have the 2nd best hand due to your kicker - when do you stop and get out*

you should raise the flop to see if you really do have kicker problems.

see if he three bets and if so make the fold, or would it really depend on how much i'm raised.
if i raise and he calls i can't assume he has a higher kicker though, so then the game goes on.

You've got to put the other guy to the decision instead of shouldering that choice yourself. They may fold their ATs becuase of kicker trouble. You need to give generally less credit to your opponents at these limits and start calling with some weaker hands until you see it biting you in the ass. Get a feel for what hands fly and which don't. It's a learning curve to get a general sense of how players at this limit play. It'll probably cost you a little dough in the short run, but it'll help with these decisions.

So i have to raise the flop.
My thoughts, though, are that if I keep going this hand will likely cost me my bank roll, when can I really make the decision that he has the higher kicker ?

Ask yourself what the odds are that he has the case A. Do you really think he'd bet the pot with an A and no possible flush draw or OESD on the board? More likely he has a K or a pocket pair. The only hand you're in big trouble against is AK.
Also, if he by some slim chance has the case A and has you outkicked with, say, a T, you have 14 outs to a split and three outs to a win.
You need to also consider the fact that you might have *him* outkicked.
Bottom line, given this action, you are ahead here most of the time (like 90%).
And for God's sake, never show when you fold a big hand like that. You're just encouraging people to take shots at you.

thanks for the in depth analysis. i assume most of the outs are resultant from higher kickers being on the board with the Trip A's ?
hopefully next time i'll have some sort of read on the guy, he could very well be the type that limps with A5o (loose) or something.
