Three-handed home game
I'm on the button with J9s
I decided to steal
the blinds are 20c/40c
I bet $1.20
SB is kind of loose, goes all-in for $4.25 more
BB folds

total of $7.05 in the pot, costs me $4.25 to call
I'm putting in 37% of the pot so if I'm 40-60 with two overcards it's good call
He might have an overpair or just one overcard or even a smaller pair
I was stealing the blinds before and now he moved in on me

I call thinking I have the odds

Is the call correct here?

Well, you don't have a read on him? it's a home game.... you probably play with this guy all the time.... but without a read, i'd say it's borderline.

Like I said in my post he was loose. But he tightened up a little later. I suspected a pretty good hand.

He actually had AQ and I had 39% pot equity so this call was EV+ but very marginally.

I had a lot of chips left even though I lost the hand.

I was just thinking that maybe the extra variance wasn't worth it. Or that he might have picked up pocket aces, since he was playing kind of passive at first. But I guess he started to push back because I was stealing his blinds.

I'd have folded - would you have raised to $5.50 with this hand against an opponent you knew had a strong hand?

Well, I could have been ahead. On this table people go all in sometimes and show 8 high... and the guy who called shows 9 high which holds up and wins. The SB was one of the guys in that hand.

In a casino this call is EV- because of the rake though.
