I had a question about a hand I played and was curious to see how others would play it.
I was playing $1/$2 NL at the Tropicana in AC, and had only been at this table for about 20 minutes.
The player on my right had been involved with a lot of hands, but would usually fold at the turn or river, the player on my left had been involved in 2 or 3 hands, and usually he took the pot down.
Righty had maybe $200 in front of him, I had $350, and Lefty had about $400.
Cards come out and I get dealt Ace-10 suited.
Righty raised to $12.
I call.
Lefty calls.
All others fold.
Flop comes Ace-10-5, rainbow.
Righty bets $25.
I call.
Lefty calls.
Turn is a brick (We'll call it a 7, but it was not of any consequence)
Check, check, check.
River is a queen. ( A - 10 - 5 - 7 - Q ) No flush posible.
Righty bets $15 ( ??? yes, $15)
I raised to $65 total.
Lefty re-raises all-in. Righty folds.
What's the play?

If you routinely play hands like this, you have some serious misconceptions about NLHE.
The flop was a small mistake and the turn was a terrible mistake. You did this to yourself.

The play was to raise the flop or bet the turn. Either one would have told you how happy he was with his hand prior to the Q. As it stands, I fold.

Maybe.
I'm more interested in value and being able to make a river play being confortable that the 4 and fewer out hands gave me money earlier in the hand if they saw the river.

I play horrible, I know this. But I considered who initially raised and knew I was ahead of him. I thought if I could hit the flop hard I would be golden.
Raise the flop was the right play?

It depends.
Checking the turn was really terrible though.
The way this played out, I'm more concerned with your approach to this game and how you expect to get value out of your hands.

OK, we hit the flop, we are golden. now check? You have to get money in there. You can’t be so afraid of scaring him off that you get down to the river then get bet off your hand. There is a happy medium between checking and going all in. It is different in every situation but you can’t go much wrong betting ½ to full pot size.
