I don't like this play. You know 2 things. He doesn't have a 6. And you have him beat. Why overbet so largely?

It doesn't matter that you won all of his chips, he was obviously a fool.

I basically knew at least one player had sixes full of jacks or higher and that it would be too difficult to lay down when I'm only representing 6's full of 10's. Why play it slower and wait for a scare card to come on the river?

I'm not sure what's so foolish about calling with 6's full of jacks here.

Pretty sure I'd lose my stack there in his position.

Then again, I suck compared to most of you guys.

But honestly, I think calling with JJ there is very, very +EV.

Yeah, roger that. Personally, I would have wait till the river, tried to show immense weakness and hope a jack or higher doesnt hit, then, let him do the betting. This would definitely milk more money out of him and probably ensure that you get all of his chips.

...so you had that good a read on him that $4 meant big pair?

He could have had a middle pair trying to steal, then you end up getting nothing.

I would have raised it to $14 for value.

I agree with the guys above. Even if you were pretty sure one of 'em would call, it'd rock to get both of them to call. $15-20 screams "Ha! I paired my Ten!"

But nice pot anyway.

I said I figured one of the players had a big pair, not necessarily the guy who bet $4 on the turn. There was a preflop raise, then a *reraise*, and then the first position player continues making small "callable" bets when the flop comes 6, 6, 6, which are then called by the guy who reraised preflop. It's obvious at least one of these players has a full house which beats 6's full of 10's.

Anyways, the fact is that I'm only going to profit from a pair above 10's here (or maybe an unlikely 6's full of 10's), and the way to win the maximum from these hands is to put them to a decision at a point when they have virtually no reason to think they're losing. Again, why wait for a scare card to fall on the river that might change a player's mind about the strength of his hand?

You say that I'll end up winning nothing if he's trying to steal with a middle pair. So what? The alternative is to win maybe an extra few bucks. If I play under the probable assumption that someone has a pair above 10's, I win a ton from these hands, and lose out on the opportunity to win maybe a couple bucks from a player without one of these hands. It's clearly a winning trade-off.

Perhaps it's a style thing, but I guess I didn't think about it this way. I suppose I was thinking in terms of value betting to reel him in on the river, rather than making him follow you AI on the turn. You obviously had a read on the guy which made you move in. Thus, your rationale of comparing upsides of either move makes sense to me. Thanks for the explanation.
