I put him on an over pair the whole time, not a set. My reasoning? I dunno, it just didn't feel like a set. With his check/call on the turn it was confirmed (if he had a set by the turn he would have check-raised me guarenteed instead of check-calling and letting me see one more card. He would have put me to a decision right there.)

But then there's a third club on the river. Could he be chasing some sort of 'effed up runner-runner flush of some sort?

What's your play here?

i don't think the turn check/call confirms overpair at all. The reason he's still okay playing his set passively is that nothing the slightest bit threatening is developing on the board. So he figures to catch you for a great many chips at the end.

Well, he has two overs and a back door flush draw. Couple that with him thinking you totally missed the flop, and you have yourself a curious george who catches. Sometimes I do something similar to this if I caught one pair on a rag flop with a back door flush draw. The reason being the implied odds are outstanding for a back door flush draw if you hit. Relative to other flush draws I mean.

Now this guy is just a moron, because he hangs around to catch it, and then totally disregards the value he gained by paying dearly to make a deceptive hand. Loose passives have no idea how bad they are. They just continue to pay too much up front, and then never extract anything on the back end.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Yeah, it just confused the hell out of me. My original read said that the guy didn't have crap. I was correct. He had a runner-runner straight draw and a runner-runner flush draw. He check-called a bet on the flop AND the turn to get his river club which whipped me.

I just thought the hand was funny. I check the HH's all the time to see what I'm going up against, and usually it's me whipping some donkey's ass for making a play like this. This time the donkey bit me, and it's hilarious.

I guess this is why I've had a four or five sessions over the last three weeks where I'll 8-table these suckers and make $50-75 per hour doing so over the course of a 2-4 hour session.

Look at you using big words and all that. I couldn't find it over at dictionary.com, so I don't know what the hell it means, BUT I LIKE IT.

It's a LeFouism. It means "of, relating to, or characterized by feces"

"What are feces?"
"Baby mice!"

Is 8>9 at your home game?

They better be, since they come in about 1/20 the time. This pot, for example, would need to roll up to about $60 to make this call "correct". I think the only time it would get that high is if George made a higher flush than J.

This is pure feces o' fish. It's very different from when you have a pair and a back door. Trips give you a near cinch. This guy has 1 overcard, which is very likely not good even if it hits. (8 kicker? Jacks versus PFR?) And a backdoor (count 1.5 outs maybe) which is also not going to be good every time.

I don't think there's any excuse at all for this play. Let's hope he keeps doing it.
