i was in a live satelite this weekend at foxwoods. $60 buy-in, 10 players play down to top 3 who get tickets to bigger satelite. i had already won one satelite earlier in the day. everyone starts out with 1000 in chips, blinds were at 50/100. im in EP and its passed to me, i look down at

i raise it to 300, having not played a pot and hoping to just steal the blinds. everyone folds to BB, who thinks for awhile and calls.

flop comes down:

BB checks to me. he hasnt played alot of pots so i put him on at least two big cards, so im wary of him flopping the nut straight. i think a little bit and bet 300. he goes all in for 1100, putting me all in. now im worried, if he had the KJ im in trouble, but not dead. I could catch one of the 3 kings to win, and the other 2 will split, plus the other 8 clubs will win. i call, he shows down KJ.

turn is

he gets up from the table, almost like hes ready to lose. he says, "you had to call me with that hand, huh?"

river is:

he pounds his fist and shakes his head. i breath a sigh of relief and end up being the chip leader when its played down to 3.

but was it a bad call? it was all my chips, im thinking of trying to accumulate before the blinds fire up. i could see the dealers clock and the blinds were set to go to 100/200 in less than a minute, which would have me putting in a 1/3 of my stack on the next two hands. of course im happy i hit the flush, but was it too loose too early? there were still 8 players left. any comments are appreciated.

I don't even bet small. I bet it all.

This is one of those hands where you just wanna let the cards decide who's going to win.

You're looking at being "dominated" by one hand but the rest of them, your outs are juicy.

i wouldve never forgiven myself if i layed it down, but thinking of the KJ or even AKc had me a little worried. then i knew i had to catch only the 8 of clubs to win. im happy with the call cause it worked out, guess u guys are right, sometimes got to let lady luck do the playing for ya.

I think it was (normally)a REALLY! bad call. but you did win so under the circumstances!? Im happy for you, the odds of getting that hand is so far out its almost impossible, it just was your lucky day

Hogwash! The odds of him hitting the straight flush are high, but the flush, not to mention straight... With this many outs he did the right thing.

I would have prefered to shove all, like Gorrila said, instead of betting 300 and showing weakness though.

Nut_Bob, i only had to catch the 8 of clubs IF he had the AKc, which was possible. it was the only hand i was a huge dog to because i didnt put him on calling with Ax of clubs. but in a way ur right, if he did have AKc it was a terrible call, and since i put him on two big cards it was a possibiltiy. at the time of the call there was 1250 in the pot to win, so i had odds of about 2-1 on my money, and my odds of winning or splitting the hand if he didnt have AKc was a little better than 2-1, so thats what made up my mind. but for all my chips i was a little tentative. thanks for the input.[/quote]

The only mistake I'm seeing here is preflop. At that point if you haven't played a pot your stack has got to be down to at least less than 900 or so, right? So you're raising 1/3 of your stack with J9c. I don't know what his stack size was and that's an important detail, but you clearly do NOT want a call preflop, so bet more. Push, even, exactly so that he CAN'T call with KJ. Anyway, with a miracle flop like that, I'd just do like the Rilla says and get all the chips in and let the cards fall.
TylerK: its just gambling if i want to worry about money i'll go to work lol
