yeah. REAL small, to the point where he says "hell, if even he does have the 10, I can call that."

After all, you don't have much of a chipstack left after that. He has you pegged on 10s. Little does he know it's FAR worse. :P

That is a huge preflop raise to be calling with 33.

If you pay 3 dollars to see the flop 8.5 times (since you'll hit your set on average one out of every 8 and a half times) with a pocket pair you have to make back 25.5 dollars just to break even which is more than your stack right now.

With a pot that multiway, you can afford to call something more than 1/10th your stack. One of them is probably going to try to make a move no matter what comes on the board.

But you would have to double up EVERY TIME you make a call for that much preflop. It just seems unfeasible to me, but you have probably played a lot more than I do so perhaps it's possible.

I encorporated that style of play into my game after talking to ilikeaces. Now all of my pocket pairs (save 33, with which I had a $70 suckout against a guy with JJ who caught a J on the river).

It's a skill to get someone to double you up with them, but it can happen quite often. And you don't have to hit every time. I've won some hands where the board hit no one as well.

It just seems like if you call 8 times for 3 dollars with 33 and assuming you don't hit your set all those 8 times and give away the hand then you are losing 24 dollars. So the next time you would have to make over 24 dollars with the set to make up for it, which seems unlikely to do everytime. Even if he doubled up with such a small stack he's cutting it close.

The idea is based on being able to double up. It's amazing how often you can get all-in with a caller by the river if you really want to and they have cause to think they beat you.

Usually, this bet, being more than 1/10th my stack, would be outside the range of callable bets. However, with so many people in the hand, I thought it made up for it. I figured that if I hit, at least one of them would pay me off. My only real fear was of MP1 re-reraising.

I would check the turn just like you did. He showed some aggression on the flop. After he checks through the turn, I would either make a 4 or 6 dollar bet on the river, or would check again, hoping he takes another stab at the pot. I'd have to see how he played for a few orbits though.

Definitely try to check raise the turn though.
