Was pretty sure his all-in bet on the river was a bluff rather than flush, aces-up, or set. Luckily I was right. Is it just me, or is there no feeling more satisfying in NL than making those huge call-downs and snapping off a bluff?

Pretty gutsy move to bet PF with that hand and then that's a pretty healty raise for middle pair and a not so great kicker on the flop. You were betting from behind untill you got ahead, then you stopped betting. That's a dangerous way to play NL. It's hard to put him on a hand, but I would have guessed him for a Ax ?[/quote]

Yeah, playing 6-max I will raise PF with a lot of very marginal hands, and if it's checked to me or I'm first to act, I'm going to make a good-sized bet on the flop almost every time. This accomplishes a variety of things: I am going to pick up a lot of pots with hands I should have folded, occasionally I'll hit a real gutterball monster and take down a big pot from an unsuspecting opponent, people who haven't played with me before will peg me as a fish once they see some of the junk I'm raising PF, and people I've played with a lot will have to be wary of me because they know I'm unpredictable
In this particular hand, I checked behind him on the turn because the flush draw came, so if he has a hand that beats me, I was probably going to pay him off on the river, but just checking meant that 1. I wasn't going to have to face a very tough decision and shut myself out of the pot if he came over the top (and if he did I probably would have folded) 2. I'd lose less if he did have a hand that beat me or if the fourth spade came on the river 3. I was setting him up to bluff the river (which he did).
