Good laydown. He had you almost certaintly beat at that point and accomplished what he wanted to do with that bet, he effectively shut down favourable odds for any drawing hands. He wanted to close the deal and this bet did exacly that. My guess is that he was on 2 pair a set or a made straight. You probably had 8-15 outs. Not enough to call.
