This guy was the table maniac and opted to raise pretty much every hand, he could well have had AK here but more likely he'd have a weak Ace, as it turned out I feel like beating myself up about the hand. Not my night tonight had AQ lose on a flop of 7 Q 9 to Q8 and KK lose to 10 4. Both times with 4xx BB raises, I give up sometimes.

Just give up on raising or even playing K4o preflop and you'll do better.

Yep agree looking back over it, I should have folded pre flop, I'd been playing pretty much an AOK19 till then aswell, this one guy mind kept raising with rubbish call small stacks all ins with J7 and the like. A lesson learnt I guess, he's on my buddy list now mind as I'm pretty certain given patience and the right cards, I'll be taking my cash back.

I like how you sneak this badbeat post in as a strategy thread. Slick. Not sound like a troll here, but you got allin against a guy with 4 outs + a BD flush draw to not even remotely the nuts. Folding preflop would have be nice tho.

obviously, you are hearing a lot of "fold K4o pre-flop" type comments, and i AGREE.
however, since you played the hand anyway...
i would say to raise more on the flop than the minimum. you are a bit vulnerable, even with two pair because of the flush draw, and the A. any kicker that pairs a weak A makes "aces up" and tears you apart. ( i hate minraises, they beg to be sucked out on)
as it looks, though, he WANTED to chase his gutshot, and the stacks were going in regardless the size of the flop raise...so...
you actually did the right thing, whether you knew it at the time or not...YOU GOT IT IN WHEN YOU ARE THE FAVORITE. you were 81% to hold up.
and against a "maniac," i make this play (if i decide to steal w/ K4, which i DO NOT, and hit two pair on the flop) a million times over every time i can. it just came out unfortunate.
lessons to be learned: 1) dont steal from maniacs, unless you have a solid starting hand, as they will defend their blinds with total crap. 2) dont steal/play K4o under any circumstances
3) however, when you flop 2 pair or better against a maniac and are HU...GET IT ALL IN, if possible.
just my .02
