Or is this extrememly standard?

Villain is 37/12/1 postflop AF...should I have smooth called and waited until turn to push with no draws on board? I figured him for AK or KQ, not KK....

You played it fast, which is what you should do. You'd be kicking yourself if he'd turned trips or two pair. NH sir. Take the money and run.

Miffed22001 is on a distinguished road
raise more preflop.
call the flop bet and providing top card doesnt pair c/r all in.

Edit: or lead into him if you think he may have a set and then fold to a reraise push

I think you loose value if you have really great hand reading skills and can put him on a hand like tp. and i think you loose value if you are good enough to lay it down after he makes a better hand on the turn. i'm not either of these so i usually play it pretty fast...unless i've got an especially good read or am playing against a hyper agressive who i know i can check to on the turn and he will bet no matter what.
