Is this a standard play against shortstacks? Is this what you were telling me about the other day Fnord?

thats standard against a 20BB stack (unless you know they are camping). I think this guy is slightly too big to just push. Hes also too small to reraise and fold the flop.

I think you have to call and hope to stack AJ, AQ, KQ etc. Pushing isnt horrible though. At least you get to see all the cards.
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.

bigspenda73: But how much did you win?

Its not about the results.

I figured I dominated some a hand or two in his calling range (I've seen shorties call with AJ+). I was only dominated by AA/KK, and flipping everything else which is profitable with the little bit of dead money there.

Well.. I still kinda call em cointoss odds.. no doubt you have the best odds for your all-in here, but I personally prefer to put it all on the table with higher guarantee. Which, no doubt, has to do with the limited size of my BR. If I was sitting on 20 buy-ins, I would do this too. Now I adjust my playstyle to my situation..

His EV is probably slightly positive. Given the expectations of his opp's possible holdings and the (little) dead money in the pot, he has >50% to win but not too much. It's personal preference I guess whether to chase these. I reserve them for <5M in MTTs mostly. In principle if you chase a 51% chance to win every time, you'll be up in the long run.. but this gives a HUGE variance-factor, and will only pay off in the really LOOONG run.

So it ended up in a TT vs AK brawl. Renton is the dog with 43% to take it home.. but he won.

Ya I think factoring in the donk AQ factor, my equity was about 50% versus his range. With my bb and the small blind, its marginally profitable.

I agree with Pelion. His stack could have been a little shorter.

I just like pwning the shortstacks because they give me so much grief by forcing me to make bad calls.

So, in a way, this was very +EV for my psyche.

You're pretty ballsy, I'd do it if he had $10 less.

This guy doesn't fall under my definition of a short stack, but if he did, I would play it like you did here. I play them with a bit more of a selective set of calling hands than I would in a tourney. But AK is a no-brainer call/push I think against a small stack.

Don't forget FE, this is usually +EV vs. typical shorties. I'd prefer a call in this situation though, I like a push around 25bb or less. Read-dependent of course.
