You projected strength preflop and bet out strong on flop and yet he re-raised you anyway, that is a classic sign of a set. But it was a very tough laydown with the cowboys. Whether or not to lay the hand down would depend on what type of opponent the guy is. Half the time I don't lay that down as some jokers will be playing something like AJ and make the same play.
Given his remaining stack I don't mind the play. If the money were deeper, I would be more inclined to fold in that situation.
