Unless you think its a thin value bet while also giving you a free showdown (which was the case in this example)?

Yep, this is the only situation I ever min-reraise people, on the turn in position in this exact situation, for the reasons you mentioned. Also, if you're beat, someone will usually make it obvious on the turn. I sent Fnord a PM about this situation a few days ago but he must have missed it. Nice hand.
