Well, this was a hand tonight from an UltimateBet Freeroll MTT(2500 ppl). It was a hand I felt I might of misplayed. It was about the middle of the tournament, blinds at 75/150. This was also about the 3rd hand I was dealt after being moved over to this new table so I did not have time to observe the players here. Here's how it happened:

Ptrojan72 folds. PocketFooz checks.

Flop (board: 4c Js As):

PocketFooz checks. skipdog172 bets 675. HmongImage
folds. honwaar raises to 1350. PocketFooz folds.
skipdog172 calls.

Turn (board: 4c Js As Th):

folds. honwaar is returned 1800 (uncalled).

I am pondering that maybe I should have raised preflop? Do you think my flop bet was ok? Maybe I should've folded to the initial re-raise. Was that check just a plain bad move showing my weakness and allowing him to re-reraise on me like that? For some reason I was thinking that when he bet big after the T that he could've very well limped in with AT or AJ and have me beat. Seems like many of my decisions that I would base upon knowing the player I could not use as I was just dropped at this table.

Please help.

Thanks

Probably should have raised pre-flop. Pot size or over bet pot on flop. The biggest mistake you made was calling his raise on the flop. Push him back or let it go. Why call then come out weak with another check on the turn?

There was a broadway str8 draw and a flush draw so it was a good fold. I think you were semibluffed out of the pot. Overall, a good fold as you were very vulnerable.

That's where you missplayed the hand. You're letting too many other hands fish around all they want. AQ isnt a liscense to print money but it's atleast worth a raise to weed out the competition. You raise and get it heads up, you can be fairly confident in a pair of aces or queens.

Now the flop has me confused. You bet the flop strong and he reraises you indicating atleast 2 pair. I don't even think you should call the reraise, just lay it down there if you arnt willing to push with AQ (Which i believe would be a mistake.) My educated guess is that he limped and set pocket 4s.

-edit- After reading SteveO's post I agree that it's either push or fold, no calling. It's a weak and losing play. Though I don't agree with the semibluff if his tactic was getting a freecard on the turn why push into a pot that he's got a good chance of getting called? He was pushing with a made hand and defending against the draws.

Calling is fine if you intend to check/raise a non-spade turn card. Agree that calling the flop then folding the turn is pretty weak.
