I checked on the turn because there was no draws on the board and because I figured he either had a monster (i was thinking pocket pair set, AK never crosses my mind) or a weaker hand id only be able to get a little money off of anyway. I figured A weaker kicker would bet a small bet on the river which I would then be able to raise through the roof and get a lot of money from (espically since itd look like I was bluffing).

Since I had position, this would give me great flexability on the river in value betting the appropriate amount and not losing too much money to the monster.

His overbet on the river told me he likely had a monster, so I just called. Because the pot was so small ("corkbottled") and he lacked position on me as well as a read, he couldn't get much money off me.

Check it out, in my opinion most people would have lost their whole stacks (100+x BB) here I only lost 65$ (16x BB). Did I play this well?

I can understand flat calling the river and checking behind on the turn.

What would your plan have been if he check-raised the river (very unlikely, but an outside possibility)

If you bet the turn and got raised?

If you bet the turn and got called?

I'm trying to decide if you got lucky checking behind on the turn, or if you coulda gotten away from your hand cheaper with a turn bet.

If he check-raised river, it depends on how much he raised, a large raise I would have folded to.

If I bet turn and he raises I'm in a real dillema lol. On the one hand you can flat call, but this gives him the possiblity of just bluffing you out of the pot with a big bet on the river, plus he could just have A with weaker kicker and think it was good. You can reraise on the turn, but this costs you a lot of money. Nasty dillema there thats why I just checked.

I dont think it would have been cheaper with a turn bet, as he certainly would have raised

You played well, so did he. For many people the overbet spells bluff and they will counter with a raise, which if reraised allin leaves them wondering is this a slowplayed monster or a counter bluff.

There is no point in raising a bluff on the river. He'll only call/raise if he has a better hand than you, if he's bluffing he'll fold. Gets you no where.

... Unless you think he is bluffing and you are also bluffing, or you think he has a big hand but you have a bigger hand.
