So I would usually on pacific raise my more than $2 with KK or AA probably $3 or $4, but had only been at the table for 10 or so hands. I am quite happy to fold KK if necessary, I don't hang on like they have some special right to win.
But the flop was safe, I think my bet here was a bit low, but I was trying to get some action from the known fish in seat 2, I knew he would call anything up to $4 without thinking, he seems to think he is pot commited if he calls preflop.
I didn't have much information on the eventual winner, but thought I would take the chance of an ace falling on the turn.
I guess my mistake was not pushing in on the turn, but im not sure the result would have been different.
Its probably not a very interesting hand, but is it a just a bad beat, did I play it badly and if so how badly and at what point, or was I just plain greedy and I deserve it.
This in my oppinion was a bad beat:

Just after a quick glance at the first hand, you should have raised big on the flop and turn, probably putting him all-in on the turn if his remaining stack is small relative to the pot.

you need to raise the flop. I am not sure it would have mattered, as he seemed to like his top pair, crap kicker. But at least then he would have had to think a little more

hand one badly badly played. preflop 2 dollars is fine, you got 2 callers. reraise the flop to 10-15, push the turn unless a scare card comes.
hand 2, not just your opinion, it was a bad beat, but wasn't an awful beat. just guesstimating but i think you were like 60% to win?

thanks for your feed back, i agree. I think not reraising on the flop is unforgivable, i think i was just being gready, and trying to make more on the river, fishy mistake. I needed to be in the driving seat in this hand.

Hand 1: Although this is a bad beat, you DEFINITELY have to raise it up big on the flop here, give him incorrect odds to draw to anything.
Hand 2: Sucks to be you :P

Raise more on the flop...$3.5 wasn't enough, I'd suggest throwing out a pot-sized or near-pot-sized bet there.
I wouldn't worry too much about what happened, though. The guy playing here is an idiot, you will make money off of this fool.

He didn't bet $3.50, he CALLED $3.50.
You MUST raise it here, I cannot re-iterate it enough.
