I'm a newbie. Yep. Did I play this right? I feel like I was badly beaten, but at the same time, I knew it was a risky play. I was ahead in cards though when I put my money in.
Game is .05/.10 on Bodog. 9 Hand Table.
I'm dealt K K .
UTG goes all in for $3.30
Villain (UTG+1) calls (with $11.00 remaining)
Hero calls (with $10.00 remaining)
rest fold
(something along those lines, the folders had different positions and the chipcounts aren't exact but both are generally insignificant to this hand)
Flop comes 3 9 T .
Villain checks to me.
I push all in with about $10.00 (I'm obviously ahead here, there's no way this guy has rockets).
Villain calls me and turns up A 8 .
The first all-in had K J . Yeah I know, what the heck, all-in with K-J? Welcome to Bodog.
At this point I'm psyched and am praying for no Ace.
Turn comes 6 . OK, no ace, no heart. I've still got odds to take this thing.
River comes 7 . O RLY!?
The whole table is in general disbelief. Was this a bad beat or should I not have pushed on the flop? Should I have pushed on preflop? I mean, even if I had pushed on preflop, I'm fairly certain this guy wouldn't have folded.
This sucks because I was ahead $10 for the night and this threw me back into no winnings after about 2 hours of play. Boo. Maybe I should expand my hands to the 169 in Renton's post? I'm playing the 19-hand beginner right now in these games and I've only been making marginal cash.
I should stick to SnGs. I make about 40 - 60% ITM in any given week with those, I just want to learn to play NLHE Ring so that I don't have to dedicate myself for an hour to a hour and a half of play.

it is just a bad beat, but you should have re-raised to $10 preflop

The whole table is in disbelief? Runner runner flushes aren't exactly uncommon dude! It's a bad beat, pure and simple, but yes, re-raise pre-flop.
