Villain is fairly tight-passive. Seems to fold very easily against aggression.
I had been taking advantage of this leading up to this hand and had pushed him off a few pots.
Part of me thinks that he was getting annoyed with my aggression and that his big reraise was an overplayed set, but I had to fold here....didn't I?
Comments on all streets appreciated.

If he's tight like you say, I think he probably has a set or and overpair.
The only hand that has you that makes sense for a tight player to have after your $2 flop bet is 9h8h. Could be though... did you see him play suited connectors kinda OOP?

I couldn't recall from memory him playing suited connectors, but your question made me realise I can check on pokertracker what hands he has shown down.
Curiously enough, all the cards he has shown have been the standard high cards and pocket pairs apart from 8,9 OFF in Middle position.
Maybe he has a bit of a fetish for the old 8,9.
Seeing that has made me think I did the right thing.
How was the rest of my play?

Now that you've seen the pokertracker data, it may be tempting to think that the right decision here was to fold, but I think you have to make this call.
You don't know for a fact when you're in this hand that he likes to play 8 9 off a lot, so I don't think folding is good.
He probably has a set, which is what I'm thinking, so you need to savor this opportunity.

I hear y'all, but...
When I bet the turn and he reraised, i reraised him in order to find out how much he liked his hand.
Maybe i should have raised more, but I don't think he was the kinda player to push a set with an obvious straight possible.
The purpose of my reraise was
1) to build the pot and
2) to get information
What's the point on part 2) if i aint gonna act on it?

You shouldn't be betting for information there. You should be betting for value. It's just way to hard to put him on exactly 89 here when he could easily have tt, 55, 66, jj-aa. Number of possible hands that beat you: 1 Number of possible hands you beat: 7 + bluffs/semibluffs. Your previous aggressiveness makes this even easier.

yeah, yeah, ok
Guess I'm out-voted.
The thing is, this hand came during one of my recent downswings.
Guess I was feeling a bit worried about losing more money.
Also, i have been stung so many times calling AIs with 2nd best hand by people "dropping the hammer", I kind of promised myself never to do it unless I am nearly certain i am best.
I usually feel that "certainty" in my the pit of my stomach first, and during this hand my stomach was screaming "HE OWNS YOU!!!"
