Hi all...here's a typical hand I'm struggling with right now, responding to the initial raiser. Is this complete donk play, if so please recommend where I should have played differently.

Initial raiser is a loose player, VP$IP 55% with approx 50 hands played, and a reasonably high PFR %.

Looks good if hes aggressive.

With AQ im folding to most preflop raisers. If someone is raising alot preflop then ill reraise with AQs. I figure this gives me the most fold equity when my AQ and their JTs both miss the flop.

The way you played it postflop you will either win the most when he is weak and is trying to buy it, or you will lose the least if he has a monster (AK+).

Not how I would have played it but I like it.

edit: thinking about it, that might be the best way to play it against a passive player too. A passive player raising UTG is probably beating you on that flop if he calls. Maybe dont call the river against a passive

edit2: Ive changed my mind again. Call that river even against a passive player. You are probably behind but no way are you behind 80% of the time. Call justified by pot odds.
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.

bigspenda73: But how much did you win?

Looks like he has TT-QQ or KQ and is just trying to test you out. River is a weak attempt at a blocking bet.

Nothing wrong with your play - he's probably just folding the turn if you bet again anyway, so this way you get another little bit outta him since your turn check makes him think you might be bluffing.

Hm, I would have bet the turn here. 1/2 pot. He really slowplays his stuff.. not even half pot on the river with an assured winner. And yeah, you have to call this. I'd expect this kind of betting from a middle pair actually. Make a mental note about this guy's slowplaying..

I'm interested as to your turn bet rationale Jackvance ...and do you mean you are putting him on middle pair? Not sure I follow that logic with AK on the board. Or did you mean my betting?

I meant that without any read, I'd have pegged him at KQ. If I'd have him as a slowplayer (seen tons of those), I'd be keeping in mind I might be beat after he called on the flop. Even more so after he raised on the river, that's how these guys play their winners. But ofcourse I'd call this anyway. So little compare to the pot, have to take this shot.

Oh and I've seen guys who hit a set on the flop and then check down to the river and then throw a lil' something. Pf, if you have something decent, even if you know he slowplays, you gotta take this chance. When you hit a winner, they'll follow your higher raises with their second best hand so you just have to wait them out.
