Set him all in on the flop, you gave him (some) odds to draw to his ace here, with these kinds of fish you just have to employ zero tolerance and make them make decisions for all their chips with ace high rather than less than pot sized bets. He was wrong to call, but you still should have put him all in.

Your preflop play was fine though.

Holy crap that's terrible (as in unlucky), you were right, in retrospect to bet more on the flop, hell I woulda pushed preflop after that $2 raise.

If you don't push preflop, push on the flop, because in all likelihood you have the best hand then.

The goal of poker is getting your money in with the greatest probability to win.

The bet on the flop was probably the time to drop the hammer on this guying drawing with two overcards. By my rough estimation, he had to call $5 to win a $24-25 pot (or thereabouts) with 2 overcards to the board (about a 24% to hit on the turn or river) and one to your pocket pair. He probably didn't put you on an overpair, so he probably thought he was getting good value for his bet (which he sorta' was).

Again, force him to pay to see that next card. Drop the axe on anyone drawing to something that can beat your made hand, there. Otherwise, it was a pretty suck-ass beat.

$6 at least pre-flop. Push on the flop. Don't fuck around with a big pair. Hands that need help want to see turns and rivers, you don't (unless all their money got in when you had the best of it.) Make 'em over-pay for a flop they're probably not going to like then give them a choice between folding and another horrible call.

Push the flop. With every card that falls, your hand gets worse and worse.

Push: The sooner, the better.

Smithers, use the amnesia ray.
You mean the revolver, sir?
Precisely.
