This one just happened to me in a full ring game. I get 23 suited in the small blind. A couple of limpers as it comes around to me; I complete, big blind checks, and four see the flop.

The flop is AK4 with two hearts, giving me a flush draw and a gutshot. Big blind min-bets, one caller ahead of me, and I call.

Turn is an offsuit 5, so I hit my straight to give me the current nuts. I check, big blind min-bets, last guy calls again. I check-raise 3x the original bet (from 25 cents to $1). Both players call.

River is an offsuit 10, making the nut hand JQ. I have second nuts; nothing but JQ beats me. I bet 2/3 of the pot ($3); second player folds; last player raises all-in for about $10 more. Call to me is $10 on an $18 pot.

Call or fold?

I'm pretty sure I call that. There is at least a decent chance he was chasing the flush and missed. a better chance at two pair. Also if he chased the straight all the way to the river I (don't want to but still do) pay it off. I think my hand is good the way it played. A read on the guy would help though.
You should never wave at people you don't know, cause what if they don't have a hand. They'll think you're cocky. "Look what I got motherfucker, this thing is useful, I'ma go pick somethin up."

call, why would he hold JQ that long? If he did, he's a moron.

Call. I hesitate to say that there's NO WAY he held JQ; who knows? it could have been of hearts.

But I still call with second nuts here.

If he was chasing the nut str8 he deserves a win for all the times he loses money by chasing it. Many people at these tables will raise any paint pf. I call.

Post-hand self-analysis:

I don't mind calling here but I wish it was less expensive. As soon as he raised all in I could only put him on JQ - and despite how horribly he played the hand, it was certainly possible for a bad player to have that. I did eventually call, and he did have JQ. I don't know if the moral here is "trust your instincts" or "raise bigger, even with the current nuts" or what. Anyway, I hope his luck is a little different the next time I run into him.

Nice suspense though. I can't believe he had JQ, he got about 2:1 odds on the turn for his gutshot str8 draw? Find him again.
