Played this correctly, or not? My read on Gormsen was that he was pretty loose/aggressive - prone to overbet most hands and also prone to call down bets he should be folding to. Obviously I'm quite satisfied with the outcome, just curious if my actions on all streets were optimal. His actual holdings were very surprising to me, but my read was exactly right.

Not a critique, but just a question. Im just trying learn get a good strategy down.

Why not just go all in on the river? If my math is correct its was only about $6 more and you had the nuts.

I wanted to make a callable bet there. Despite this guy being pretty LAggy, I felt like thumping the all-in button would send a message: either "I'm really strong" or "I'm bluffing like mad." I felt like I had a better chance of him calling $15 than calling the all-in, which wasn't much more expensive. If he did call the all-in it would be because he thought I was trying to bluff him out... rather not take that chance. He had bet $15 on the turn already so I suspected that if he had any kind of hand, he would call that same bet on the river.

This may just be my opinion beacuse I know what bot of you had, but if I was just an observer watching this hand play out live, I would have guessed you guys had either a str8 or flush, so that J on the river had no bearing on the hand. IMO if he bet on the turn, he would of called your AI on the river since he had a 3:1 chip advantage, and obviously was having some luck at the table (+$70).

Is that not a good way to think?

I don't think the chip advantage comes into play so much in a ring game. My main concern was not looking too much like I had slowplayed a flush. If he has a high flush he'll call any bet there and I don't need to worry - in fact he'll raise me, which makes me quite happy; but if he hit that gutshot straight (which is what happened), and he believes I slowplayed a flush on the turn, he'll fold. So the bet I'm trying to find there is the maximum amount he'll call out of curiosity. Any smart player realizes they're probably beat when I flat-call the turn and then lead out on the river, but the question is how much he's willing to pay for the small chance that I'm bluffing. If I hammer the all-in, he'll be more likely to think I'm bluffing, but less willing to pay for it if he thinks I'm probably not. Make sense?

Yes it does. Like I said, I wasn't critiqing, just try to learn as much as I can and your advice has been helpful. I probably would of pushed all in when I hit the the str8 flsh.

Thats why I love this forum. People are willing to give great advice and not act like you are stupid for asking questions. I have been playing poker for about almost a year, and found this site labout 4 months agio,and my play has improved dramatically since. Thanks for eveything
