A few hands prior to this I'd done a similar move with a pair and a flush draw (and missed, incidentally) against a player who reraised me preflop, so I decided to try it again, this time with a more powerful hand. The thinking being it looks like another semi-bluff, and may very well get called by an overpair while putting the maximum pressure on any drawing hands. I was also thinking I may have difficulty getting the money in another way, since a lot of cards could come on the turn which would put an end to any action I might get on the flop, and getting into a raising war on the flop with a player who reraised preflop is too indicative of strength.

Any other thoughts on this play or similar ones?

*yawn*

Pretty much standard if you're going to play big draws the same way, although it's usually all-in on the first or second bump post-flop.

Apparently it does not excite Fnord's interest. I apologize everyone.

We need more posts like check-calling with a nut draw, then check-raising all-in with the nuts on the turn. Those are more enlightening.

...or check/calling the under-full then putting it all in on the river.

On a less cynical note, Spirt Rock does this stuff all the time. Splashes around in small pots to create the illusion of action, then over-plays the nuts and gets paid. Although, he'll bet the farm with just air sometimes as well to balance it out. It's a style I've been trying to imitate a bit.

It throws off thinking players. Had a notorious little hand against Micheal1123 in a home game once.

100bb stacks.
Mike opens for 3x (he has 2 cards)
I re-raise with QQ.
Flop is something like T-7-rag

Mike checks, I push, Mike thinks, puts me on AK and calls with 7x.

This overbet hand reminds me of another one you posted a while ago, dsaxton:

http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...ic.php?t=19017

Certainly different hands, but maybe related.

I think if you checked, he was betting high or all-in to protect his Kings with that flop. I understand the concept though. I've been looking for spots to do that in as well.

Actually his opponent went all-in on the river with a big overbet with 2 pair and dsaxton called with TPTK.

Second pair, and he isn't talking about that hand.

I know. I decided a while after posting that hand history that his probably wasn't that bad of a play.

I've done this before at 50NL. I decided that any tight read bluff would be all in and any time I had a winning hand I would go all in. I set a trend of overbetting. It loosens the shit out of a table in no time, and it's a blast if done properly. Eventually just start pushing all in with any reasonably solid edge.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

there are tons of tight players who won't call huge bets with even top pair, it's really amazing
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

Wow, it actually works:

$200 NL

PREFLOP
Villain: limps from EP
Hero: limps from cutoff [Jd, Ts]
Otherguy: minraises from button
Villain calls
Hero calls

FLOP - [10d, 8s, Js ] - Pot is $15
Villain checks
Hero bets $8
Otherguy folds
Villain calls $8

TURN - [10d, 8s, Js, 9c] - Pot is $31
Villain checks
Hero checks

RIVER - [10d, 8s, Js, 9c, Jc] - Pot is $31
Villain bets $10
Hero bets $275.90 (all-in)
Villain calls $174.10 (allin)

Villain shows [9h, 9d]
Hero shows [Jd, Ts]

Hero wins $488
