Wrgvt1 was playing very loose passive so I didn't know what to think. Not really happy about the call on the river but I thought I may have been ahead. Also this was the 4th time in the session I was dealt AK and the previous 3 times I was beat so that may have affected my decision. Just wondering what you guys would have done differently.

Stop and think of what you put him on after his flop bet/call. He bet something like 1/5 of the pot. If you put him on a set or two pair (the only hands that beat you at that point), do you think he'd bet like that? Would he sit back and just call a raise with a vulnerable hand on a board like that? Or is he on a draw? If he's on a draw, you've got to make him pay for it on the turn. He's putting a $4 into ~$20 pot. That's nothing. It seems to me like he's on a draw and he's waiting to see if he hits. If you think he's drawing, raise his turn bet to $13-15. It's still escapable if he pushes (at that point, you can put him on something that beats you and fold), but it'll ruin most draws.

After his weak turn bet, he all of a sudden comes alive and fires a 1/2 pot bet when a straight is there... not enough to push you out on a bluff, but enough to get some value from what he thinks is a better hand... seems suspicious, no?

With both the flush and strait draw out there on the flop, i like your flop bet with TPTK. Villains calling is standard for having both draws, unlikely he'd try and slowplay a set by smooth calling here because of the flushdraw and possible strait draw. His turn bet is very weak, you need to raise that hard for info, the 8d couldn't have helped him. I might consider pushing the turn if i've seen my opp bet weakly on draws before. Even without a read i make it 15 on the turn. In this case, having both draws, villain would probably wind up calling anyway so it wouldn't have saved you here, but raising the turn for info is the only way to know whether or not you should put m ore money in on the river.

I agree with you entirely PokerPat. After thinking it over the turn bet just felt like a protection bet so that I wouldn't reraise. At the time I was thinking he had two pair. In this case I think even if I reraised or pushed he would've called.

Let's just say that I did reraise the turn and the villian called. With the ace coming down on the river giving me top two pair. Would you call 1/2 pot bet on the river?

I'm guessing that if your raise on the turn was pot-sized ($20) he probably would have abandoned his draw. He practically told you that he was drawing, so you need to set the price for that next card. If you were still sure you had the lead on the turn, I see no reason to not make a pot sized bet just like you did on the flop.
