Hi everyone, this is my first post here but i'm a long time lurker. So I was wondering if i could have gotting more value here by checking behind on the turn? or perhaps a scared looking bet of 1/3 pot on turn instead of 2/3?

MP1 ($106.20)
MP2 ($29.50)
Hero ($104.20)
CO ($21)
Button ($27.55)
SB ($219.10)
BB ($20)
UTG ($99)
UTG+1 ($115.50)
Preflop: Hero is MP3 with Jc, Jd.
2 folds, MP1 calls $1, 1 fold, Hero raises to $5, 3 folds, MP1 calls $4.
Flop: ($11.50) Js, 2c, 8s (3 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets $5, MP1 calls $5.
Turn: ($21.50) 3h (3 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets $14, MP1 folds.
Final Pot: $21.50
And this hand, should i have bet again on the turn? i thought he might be check raising me there with a big overpair.

hand 1: bet more on the flop and 1/2-2/3 pot on the turn.
hand 2: i fold preflop given heavy actions and your position. Top pair OK kicker in3 bet pot is often no good and sucks a whole lot. As played, dont minraise on flop. If raising, you 've got to make a man size raise . It looked like he wanted cheap showdown (likely flush draw) and you had less than one pot size bet left behind, so i'd shove on the turn and hope for the best. Anyways, i'd NEVER play this hand like you did preflop/flop.

Thanks for the reply pokerfan
So on hand 1 i should just be trying to build a big pot with top set? I bet hoping to get check raised, hence the weak looking bet.
Hand 2 i see where your coming from, but i was getting 3-1 odds and my call closed the betting. Clearly if im up against an overpair the call isn't great. The reason I only raised to 19 is because i didn't want to commit myself if the button came over the top. when he folded i guess he had AK. BB turned over TT and i won the pot.

I like the first hand. You wont always get action, and that's ok.
On the second hand you give a villain really good odds. raise to like 35-40 so it looks like your committed, you can still fold to an ai from either player. if you don't want to commit that much, you have to fold to the 8 or flat call (ewwww.) keep in mind, when you called preflop this is not the flop you were hoping for.
