Here is a hand I shared with Zook during a recent session review. We are curious regarding alternative lines. River is what we were most interested in, but comments everywhere welcome. Is this a spot for a river checkraise? No real reads on villain, not many hands together, but he seems like a calling station. Pot at river is approx equal to what is left behind....Also if it matters, at AP you can buy in at 200BB. I had not accumulated this stack during play...

If you think opp is a calling station just fire at the river. If you think he may bluff then check raise.

I don't like the turn though. If you're willing to call a raise, then you should also be willing to check/call, which can result in less money being wagered on the turn when you are in need of a card to win the showdown.

you prefer check/call too?

My reasoning for leading was to rep KK protecting against flush draw, feeling like my line said high PP up to that point.

there isn't even a flopped flush draw. As Fnord says, it's crazy how much people worry about flush draws. Presence of a flush draw should only alter your line a small amount, especially out of position, and in this particular case it should have no influence whatsoever since it is a backdoor draw. If this opponent wasn't a tool, he would have priced you out of this pot on the turn. You're out of position, you have big implied odds if he's got a betable/raisable hand at the turn, and you can't stand a real raise if you bet. So c/c.

You opponent messed it up on the turn big time. His min. raise on the turn gave you pot odds to chase your house (call 25 to win 133 plus implied odds). River is fine......if he's a station he'll probably call with any King.

I now see the stupidity of the turn lead. And a check-raise would never work unless I check/call flop. However, how often does the checkraise on the river work? If I am villain, on that board, if I get check-raised on the river, I can't call it. River check-raises usually mean business. The trick would be for him to build a pot he can't fold to, right?
