I was concerned about having 2 Broadway cards on the flop. I think I played this too fast. I probably should have called flop reraise and checked turn if a second flush card didn't hit or bet pot if it did.

How would you play the toppest of sets in this situation?

I think you played it fine. You had the option of slowplaying it and extracting more money (turned out in this case it wasn't necessary). You played it safe instead and it turned out this guy had a hand he liked and was willing to play it. I also like the blatant honesty in the chat window, that's awesome!

On the flop there is already a nice pot. I want what's in the middle. I think you played it right.
Light years ahead of the competition.

I like the terse answer. And then his call.

uh....no?

Despite the outcome of the hand, you played this way too fast.

You have AA on a board of AJ2, rainbow. I don't see how you can be like "oh, well I don't want him to catch a 10 with a KQ, so I guess I'll reraise with teh nuts". If you played a person with any sense, he would fold TPTK to your raise there. I mean, the only hand you really should be inviting to call you here is a bottom set, and if that's the case, he'll pay you off just as readily on the turn and river as on the flop.

You should have called the reraise. The guy's either A) bluffing, in which case you can give him another chance or B) likes his hand, in which case you can take money from him on later streets because you've got any hand that reraises and is a made hand already beat.

Reraising with a set of aces on a pretty much drawless board is a weak play and will result in you extracing less value from your hand. I mean, you CANNOT be so freaking worried about someone catching a gutshot. There's a term for that: scared money. And you don't want to be playing with scared money.

I guess I should clarify a little bit. I wasn't actually scared of the gutshot draw at that point. I know I said that in my original post, but I really wasn't. I really just got greedy - I wanted to get all the money in when I knew I had the nuts.

So if you called the flop reraise, what would you do after that? If the flush draw did not show up, I would probably check, hoping he would push. If the flush draw did show up, what would you do? He could have AK spades, so I would probably bet pot and just hope he called.

Checking the turn if a blank shows up ain't bad if you think the other guy's trying to bluff you.

Otherwise, you can try betting a callable amount if you think he has AK or AQ.

Either way, if you still have chips left on the river, they're going in.

Rgr what ensign says...YOu shouldnt be scared of anything either way. This is a relatively drawless board, just bet, and keep gutshots out.
