No reads on villian. Do you agree with my play on all streets? It just felt like there was no way I could be ahead of anything he could possibly be holding on the river, hence the fold. Was I too weak here?

well he saw the flop from the BB so he could easily be limping in with a 5 or 2 diamonds...then his flop bet is about half the pot which signals a flush draw...then he checked the turn when he hit it trying to induce a bet and then value bet on the river. or he missed his straight and im totally off but flush is more likely. so fold.

Bet that turn for info.. find out if hes got anything. Hey may fold, If he re-raises you can fold, if he flat calls you may get a free showdown... if he flat calls and bets the river then fold... 3 to flush and paired board is scary but bet that turn for info - otherwise his river bet could be a complete bluff.

Yeah, there's no reason to give him a free turn. All you are doing is letting him hit that flush or whatever he wants. If he wants to raise you, or call with a draw, let him, because you still have the odds to win @ that point.

What is the point of betting the turn? What hand can I possibly be beating right now? When villian bet into me on the flop, the only reasonable hands I can see him holding are 77 or a flush draw or maybe a 5x if he's loose. Straight draw is unlikely given that flop. When the turn card completes the flush, I really don't see what I can be beating, except some stupidly played A7 or something. That's the reason I checked, was to try to get a cheap showdown and to keep the size of the pot under control. If I did bet the turn, it would have to be something like $10-$15, and if villian just smooth called I would pretty much be commited to calling any bet $15 or less on the river. When villian bets $10 on the river, it smelled like a "please call me" bet, so I folded. If villian indeed had just a 7 or an overpair like 88-JJ, wouldn't he want a cheap showdown as well?

Your logic is...

I guess you just wanted to give him some money....

As others have said, you should have bet the turn.

You seem to have gone in depth in to what the other guy might have been holding but havn't stopped to consider what he might have thought you were holding. Keep this in mind, people don't just bet off their cards, they bet of what they think your cards might be too.

What could he be holding? Any overpair that yours is superior to.

Also, you're not betting the turn to try to get him to call, necessarily. You're betting the turn to make HIM decide whether or not to call instead of having to make that decision yourself. If he doesn't have a flush, he probably folds there, and you then take the pot instead of letting him bully it away from you.

A tip I gave my little brother with AA. If you ever make it to the river, facing a bet into a pot that you're not commited, fold.

Discuss.

well he could have had A7

pair of sevens doesn't seem so bad on the flop and because you raised he SERIOUSLY doubts you have a five in your hand

a turn bet would make him fold if he indeed had only a pair of sevens

I agree with this logic. The problem is trying to make the river without committing yourself to the pot with AA...

With that little adjustment it's much more interesting...

No, thats better.... TJQK board looks nice when you have Aces, as does a nut flush.
