fold preflop.

To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

There's no such thing. If you're sure you're beaten and you do not have odds to improve, you do not have to put the money in the middle.

I hate the saying "pot committed"
What does it mean? Why are you committed to the pot? Psychologically, maybe... but not in game terms.
I think what it actually means is "oh shit i might have lost this, but there's no way i'm being left with just a few bucks and never knowing his hand - i'd rather go broke"

Normally I fold pf, but I'm trying to loose up in position lately, so I can improve postflop play and maybe even get paid off more on big hands. But then it's still a bad call I guess. Tnx.
About the pot committed thing, I mean I had to put in 10$ more to win 40$ which is ~25%. I had 4 outs for the boat (~17%), plus the remote possibility that I actually had the best hand (AT?), so I called.
I probably should have called his minraise, but then the turn would be tricky too..
(Result: He showed Q8 and I won the pot. )

Board: 8s Th 9d
Dead:
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 82.9582 % 82.03% 00.92% { TT-88, QJs, QJo }
Hand 2: 17.0418 % 16.12% 00.92% { Td9c }
Toss in the Pacific donk factor, and yes virginia, he's pot-struck.
