Anyway, my bets charged enough that I'll show profit against a gutshot right?
What is your move on a Q/J/T turn?

Oh I meant "gut" as in the German word pronounced "goot" meaning good... not gut shot.
I think you played it "gut" as in "good"

Since he's not a full stack I'm going to have troubles laying down on either turn or river if I bet turn, especially since any straight-completing card makes 2 pair for a good chunk of his flop range. How 'bout check behind, call river? Is this too weak?
What's my move on a turned Q/J/T villain lead (or blank turn lead for that matter)?

How do you know that villian does not have a set and raises on the flop? Ignoring the turn and the river? is it because he then checks on the turn? maybe he now has quads and is waiting for you to bet? I obviously would call on the river since it is only 18.8 to go.
Back to the main question how do you know he isn't holding 55?

I don't. If he has quads I'm just going to have to pay him off. To be up against quads is rare enough that I'm willing to do that in this spot.
The turn 5 is a bad card in that it gives A5 a boat, and a check on the turn is exactly how he might play it. I wonder if a check behind turn, call any river is a good way to play this hand. Trouble is that it gives AQ/AJ/AT, all of which are very possible hands, a free chance to hit a gutshot straight. Hence this thread.
When I decided to bet the turn I looked at his stack and tried to find a way to get all in against AQ and below. Maybe a slightly smaller bet, say 25$, would keep more of these hands in while still setting up a river push.

i like your line. i have a really hard time believing that QJ stuck around in the hand til the river. if so then make a note immediately! this looks like it could easily be AT, A5, 55, or just a weaker A to me. nh.

Do we change our play if villain has a full stack? (aside from, as previously suggested, making it 20 to go on the flop)

Why? so you scare off Ax from calling you down?
I like the way you played it.
If you raise to $20 on the flop someone holding AJ or worse might fold...once the 5 hits on the turn anyone holding Ax ,where x does not=5, pays you off.

Explain to me how AQ, AJ, AT can hit a gutshot straight on a board A K 5 5....

They hit runner runner on the river and the waterfall (what, this isn't Texas Holdem Abitlonger?).
Ok I messed up. Replace AQ/AJ/AT with "random broadway hands". Which obviously aren't as likely (but not negligible (sp?)).

Yeah, but would there be more merit in controlling pot size earlier in the hand?
