My biggest leak lately seems to be stupid cards. Is there any way I can avoid situations like this? Here's my most recent example hand:

Texas Hold'em $1-$1 NL (real money), hand #1,193,935,091
Table Tbilisi, 22 Aug 2005 03:01 PM

Seat 1: c bax ($19.75 in chips)
Seat 2: 69_camaro ($28 in chips)
Seat 3: marklar85 ($27.50 in chips)
Seat 4: lemo8 ($111 in chips)
Seat 5: Raider83X ($36.50 in chips)
Seat 6: JonboyAU ($59.50 in chips)
Seat 7: Galapogos [AD,AH] ($99 in chips)
Seat 8: LFCMarc ($107.25 in chips)
Seat 9: LugNut25 ($96.50 in chips)
Seat 10: steelerfanz ($71.50 in chips)

ANTES/BLINDS
Raider83X posts blind ($0.50), JonboyAU posts blind ($1).

PRE-FLOP
Galapogos calls $1, LFCMarc calls $1, LugNut25 folds, steelerfanz folds, c bax folds, 69_camaro folds, marklar85 folds, lemo8 folds, Raider83X calls $0.50, JonboyAU checks.

Yes I'm aware I commited the sin of slowplaying AA here but I was expecting raises following here. Anyway, on with the rest of the hand

FLOP [board cards 4D,2C,7D ]
Raider83X bets $1, JonboyAU calls $1, Galapogos bets $3, LFCMarc folds, Raider83X calls $2, JonboyAU calls $2.

Should I have hit the flop harder? Aside from a flush draw I felt pretty safe at this point

TURN [board cards 4D,2C,7D,JD ]
Raider83X checks, JonboyAU checks, Galapogos bets $5, Raider83X folds, JonboyAU calls $5.

Throw out a bet to test for flushes...

RIVER [board cards 4D,2C,7D,JD,QS ]
JonboyAU checks, Galapogos bets $10, JonboyAU calls $10.

Really sure this guy didn't have a flush so I bet out another 10 to rep it myself (I was holding the A after all) and push him off whatever he was on

SHOWDOWN
Galapogos shows [ AD,AH ]
JonboyAU shows [ 7C,JH ]
JonboyAU wins $41.

Ok so is this an unlucky hand? Or is he stupid for not fearing a flush or set. Or am I stupid for not playing this harder on all streets but the river? This stuff is happening to me a lot and I want to know what to adjust to stop it. Please someone rip apart my play here.

I think you played it fine until the bet on the river. Maybe the flop bet could have been a little bigger but with just 3 seeing the flop it's not out of line. The pre-flop limp is not uncommon either from UTG. You just have to remember that with a limped pot, anything is possible.

But the bet on the river is a big mistake. Only a hand that beats you calls that.

So should I have put in another $5 just for the sake of continuation incase he was chasing something too? Or screw it and just check folded out of here?

looks fine.

Why no check behind on the river?

What hand worse than AA that called the flop is calling the river?

-'rilla

Smithers, use the amnesia ray.
You mean the revolver, sir?
Precisely.

You so silly. I like the value bet, although I'd go with $5 so all kinds of crap will call.

I didn't check behind on the river because this wasn't a very strong player and he wasn't coming off as being too sure of his hand. I thought maybe repping a flush or set would scare him out. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

He gave you no indication you were beat; just keep betting, like you did.

Maybe a little smaller on the river, but yeah.

even if you are expecting raises.. are you then intending to reraise? at which point any half decent players are putting you on AA/KK, and they may call, and unless you raised huge you really dont have much idea on what they may have. so you're risking getting into a mulitway pot with no idea idea of the other hands. A standard raise gives you more info and hides your big hand and isolates the pot and makes life a hell of alot easier for you in the rest of the hand... but like you said, you know it wasnt smart.. so thats enough from me.
villain goes AI
i call with a set (i have him owned)
i win pot
villain: **** this, this site is bullshit, ******* rigged, suck out ****

As BIG said, you limped, got run down, and now decided to post and whine about rags beating you. You knew it was going to happen. Just shake it off. You played it wrong. Was there an overaggressive player to act behind you? Why did you expect a raise? Seems more like a shorthanded limit poker play to me.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Ok yes this was an overly aggressive table, was actually the first hand in a while without stupid little mini-raise wars going pre-flop. And no I don't find the tables here good enough to put me on AA-KK with a re-raise pre-flop as guys are calling with any two face cards. So judging by the past bunch of hands I would have ended up head to head with an inferior hand. And no this isn't whining. ANYWAY....

The reason I posted this was for everything post flop. I know AA slowplayed is risky. I'm concerned about everything after that though because I have been losing a lot lately to wierd hands that I just can't put guys on. I posted this right after this hand and it was the only example HH I had.

So what I wanted out of this is when looking at this post-flop is there anything I've done wrong, should I have put him on two pair even though he was giving off the vibe that he was unsure of his hand?

Sorry I didn't make that very clear in the original post. I was steaming at the time and didn't bother to make sure it was all kosher

Didn't mean to offend you man, it just seemed to me you knew why you got beat and then scratched your head for us with a question you knew the answer to. But anyway that's not the point. So let's move on...

As for your opponent being unsure, they called a $5 bet on the turn when a flush card came. That shows enough strength for you to seek a cheap showdown or even check/fold. Your opponent didn't seem hesitant to pay for a showdown. As it turns out your opponent was just cry calling the flush board while not quite believing you have one. Good read by them.

None taken my friend I can understand how it looked like a typical "bitching about AA thread". There's enough of that around anyway.

Yeah I never really considered the call on the turn to be that confident so that's why I continued to play. It definately wasn't an acting job on his part. I guess I ended up trying to push a calling station around. But I guess if he's going to go far enough to call a $5 turn bet he's gotta have something better than one pair.
