What's up with the attendance for Wednesday night Gauntlet games so far this season?
Last week, I understand, as it was Valentine's Day. But last night? Do I need to send out a newsletter every Wednesday and Sunday morning?

Yes they do, which sucks because Wed's are SO much better for me than Sunday's.
Last season it was the opposite.

Last season was the same structure, I believe. Season before that though...
I play the game with the biggest field in order to get (potentially) the most points, which usually means I play Sundays. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has figured that out. If the point structure was flat regardless of field size I'd play both.

I had things to do with my daughter the past couple of Wednesdays, but I should be free from here on out, and Wed works better for me than Sun......
Count me in on the 28th....

I was planning to play the gauntlet this year but couldn't make the first two sundays......which basically screwed up my chances for playing 12 games. I am in Austria and while I generally am a night person, starting a game at 3am on wednesday....make that thursday morning....doesn't really work out for me since my daughters wake up at around 6:30am. oh, that and I have to go to work. If I fall asleep at work, then Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset, and when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset, PEOPLE DIE!!!!!
How much Eurotrash we have here on the forum? Perhaps this is part of the wednesday low attendance problem.
edit: I suppose the question should be, "How many Euros are registered for the gauntlet?"

whats with all the "i cant make it talk?" if we were true degeneres (oops), like frist thinks, we would screw our children waking up, our jobs, our sleep, and line up for the $5 league.
well, so much for that...govt arrrrsehulls. see, SOME of us have priorities.
lol.

im just gonna throw out a thought that next year maybe their can be a more focused Euro weeknight game!!!! it would still be able to attract american players since it would be just earlier in their day time.
basically just anytime game that could suit euro's too apart from just one day a week.

Any reasonable weekday evening time for Europeans would be in the middle of the work day for us North Americans.

Is there a problem with taking the number of tourneys from 24 to 36, while still allowing only 12 to be played? I wonder if the increase in overall players would offset the number of people lost in the other two timeslots? I don't know if this has been tried in the past as this is only my second Gauntlet, so if it has and didn't work then nevermind!!!

I don't think we have enough people attending each of these games as it is. Our total volume of Gauntlet players isn't enough to fill 36 games.

This seems reasonable to me. Maybe take 4 of the 12 Wed games and make them on eurodonk time. Maybe even make these 6pm EST so the euros are starting at midnight but some American's could still participate (I guess only the east coast). Or later so the auzzies could play with the euros.
I can understand not wanting to vary the starting times. I also don't mind the American bias

People already have trouble remembering that we have a game every Wednesday and Sunday. No way they're going to be able to follow along with different start times.

Truth is, most of our players are American. I try to accommodate as much as I can, but I have to do it based on the demographic of the players.

X,
Why don't you send some reminder emails out? I think we need to do some recruiting as members? We need an FTR logo for our avatars...

any reasonable weekday evening for North American would be in the middle of the night for Eurpeans too. So zero chance for Euro's.
BTW i honestly thought that when it began that there was more than 12 sundays. Its unrealistic for anyone to commit to the games if the can only play one a week.
The fact that i enjoy the games alot makes me want more access, im not moaning for the sake of it.

also just as thought as i kept reading down. if americans have trouble remembering the game it could be tha tthey are spoilt for choice since they have 24 games available to them. they can just say ''ill play the next one''.
do doubt much will come of this and perhaps its argued every year. No euro will win a guantlet unless they stay at home every sunday night.

Xianti is right about not being able to accomodate every player in here, whatever the time may be...someone will have a problem with it. And also correct to say that we don't have enough players to accomodate for having more games if we're only allowed 12 games max, will lower the attendance even more.
With that said, maybe we can have TWO games on Wednesday. One should be the same time as we have it now and the other should be 12 hrs away (or whatever). Then count only the best score from the two if played both, so you won't lose attendance on regular time.....whether or not you play both, it will only count as one game played. So that way, you solve the euro problem, although you may get low attendance on it, atleast you still get some points. Now since you take the best out of the two, for those that did poorly from the first one can have a second chance (will increase attendance). and for some of us that had to work overtime, fell asleep, have plans, etc. can also have a second chance that day.
Now for those that can play on both games will have a little advantage over most of us (including myself), because they get two chances to up their points. But how many can really play both on a bad time slot?
I think you first have to see how many people really play on euro time. if you get at least 5..i think u should keep it.
This league will be revised over and over making it better and better. I'm not saying that we should automatically apply my suggestion....think about it with your FTR team for a couple of days...or minutes, then make ur changes if any. I'm just trying to suggest a possible improvement (like we all should) to make this league grow and become even more successful.

How about dropping the wednesday games next season? Just keep the sunday games at the current time and run the league for 18 weeks or so as opposed to this season's 12 weeks.

Thanks for the suggestion, but this would be near-impossible to manage. Imagine how much time it would take to look at each of these games, pick out the best score for each player, then compile a new list of every player's best scores to upload into the game results database.

This is an idea that was explored before and is probably the most reasonable.
However, there was a time in the early seasons when we had only one game per week (or it was suggested, I don't remember) and a lot of people thought it wasn't frequent enough--they couldn't wait that long to play again. More importantly, most people thought having only one day of the week to play was too limiting, i.e., no matter which day of the week it is, someone always has a commitment on that day of the week, every week. This is why we have the choice of 2 different days per week.
---
We have this discussion about Gauntlet scheduling every single season, without fail. And we have yet to come up with an answer that will satisfy everyone. I truly feel it is impossible to accommodate any more people than we are currently doing.
Think of it like this. I'm an international cable network TV programmer. You are the world. You are asking me to schedule a television show that is aired in a time slot that is convenient for everyone in the world. This cannot be done. Most of my audience is in the US, so I have to program for the US, with one repeat showing that works for another part of the world.
