After 9 rounds of playing Gauntlet I have 20 bucks left at Pokerstars. I was thinking of
Question 1. I see now there is no way of winning and getting the trophy. I knew this wasn’t going to happen but I was hoping I would at least be ITM at this point. Is it better to use the remaining 20 bucks on stars to build a bankroll or continue playing Gauntlet with a great bunch of people and maybe learn a little more? After reading the Bankroll Management guide I think that it might more wiser to do the 1.20 sng’s than to play the remainder of games in Gauntlet. There is probably no way of getting more money to play next season’s Gauntlet. It would be interesting to get a final score of playing the last 3 so I can compare it to next season but is it worth it?
Question 2. How well can I improve my poker game using play money? Is there a comparison? I have seen people go in to the Tournaments just to double and then sit out so that they may get in the money and let everyone destroy each other.

Welcome to FTR
I only read your questions
1. If you want to keep playing on-line build your roll at either $1 SnGs or 2NL. You may still go busto.
The gauntlett is not easy. There is a lot to learn from beating up on weak players
2. At play money cash no. At the SnGs a little. AFter you get into higher buy-ins the play is slightly better. You can still fold to the money sometimes. You learn patience, and how to take beats.

All I read were the questions. Here's my opinion.
If all you have left is $20 you can still play the last 3 Guantlets, IF, you work your butt off Th-Sat playing the 1.20 sng's and grind some money up. Make it your goal and go after it.
Question 2. Do not go to the play money games to improve your game. Practice proper BR management right now, don't play anything but the 1.20 and the 3 guantlets(if you make enough money to do so) and you will be ok. Once you have built your roll to 20 buyins for the $3 SNG's then move to those.

It's definitely time for money management. Why not try this: set aside $6 to play in at least one more Gauntlet tourney. With your remaining cash, try to build up your BR so you can play in more Gauntlet tourneys. As BigSpenda73 said, make it a goal to build the BR as soon as you can. There are a lot of loose, aggressive players in The Guantlet so if money's tight, use your discretion. It's a great group of people; fun, strong and respectful and that always makes for a fun time.

I am probably in the minority here but that's one of the cool things about this forum... various opinions. I think you can definitely improve your game skills in play money games IF you play with discipline and treat the game like a money game. Sure, you'll get the crazies that go all-in on the first hand and some that will simply sit out, but once you get to the remaining 4 or 5, they typically play better. Play money tournies are a great way to develop and test strategies. There are many flaws with PM games, but knowing them will help in the longterm.
If money is tight, then use PM games to improve your skills. You MUST play the games like a real money game in order for that to even come close to working. Don't fall into the traps of 'just calling' cause it's only play money. Be wise, disciplined and patient. Develop strategies. Build up to higher limit PM tournies and you'll notice a few more better players. Once you feel good about a strategy, test the waters in a real money game. The higher the limit the 'better the player.'
Good luck!

You got some very sound advise from the stars here at FTR which I fully agree with. I can tell you that I played in a few PM sngs for 6,9, and 18 players. I got some good lessons out of it. The first thing is patience. You've got to let the crazies drop like flies. The second was setting traps. By being hand selective, I was able to set traps and see how they worked. The third and most important to me was heads up play. I must say that I placed either 1st or 2nd in the 6 that I played in. When I got to heads up play, I started to feel my sense about the other player and built a strategy around it. There is value to it. Just stay the course.

Thanks for the advice. This is basically what I did. I played 1.20 Sng until I got extra money for the Gauntlet. I was ITM for in the two sngs that I played and was able to be in the Gauntlet. I will now play the remaining two games if and only if I am above the 20 min I have set myself. I figure I can participate in next season's gauntlett if I take this same course of action.
I am limiting myself to playing only when I am fresh in mind and don't have any family distractions. A wife and 3 kids can do that to you. especially when I am playing at the kitchen table.

Fun playing with you yesterday. You and irish were the one's giving me trouble seeing how you both "seemed" to be opening a wide range of hands when the M's were around 10 making it tough for me not to blind down. I hope you stay in the Guantlet. It was my first ever Guantlet yesterday and probablymy 5th or so MTT (4 tables, lol) and I learned so much about the necessity of aggression in accumulating chips. I got owned many times but was lucky enough to sneak ITM with a good rush of cards at the FT.
Good luck to you.

Congrats in your 3rd place finish. Very imressive for your first Gauntlet tourney. I'm glad you and Borgib had the opportunity to jump into the game.
I played horribly, trying to change up some strategy. Argh. Can we just pretend that game never happened? I want a refund. Or a comp. Where's the floor person? Sigh.
