Okay, I'm still new to the Gauntlet thing so excuse the stupid question. Is there a Tournament of Champion event still looming for the 10 top players or did I misread that? If there is such a thing, when is it and is it possible to watch from the rails?

Yeah... I'll probably figure it out this week. The game will be a few weeks out, to give the past season qualifiers enough notice (via email).
And yes, you can rail.

Uh, my schedule has me playing tournaments in Atlantic City brick and mortars from Jun 6-8 inclusively. So, please take that into consideration when scheduling.
Respectfully, Mirage

i always figured a TOC would include past league champs (as a courtesy/accomplishment..sort of like the Masters' once a champ, always invited theme.), new Top 10 (recognition), and maybe the current league's individual champs.
may get a bit bigger, and would most definitely be a "skilled" event, imo.
not trying to hijack or speak out of place, just a thought/suggestion.

The top 10 from every season are invited to play the TOC.
I'll get this TOC V underway. Do you guys want a rebuy tourney? Or a freezeout?

Yeah. A rebuy might discourage some participants due to bankroll and the -EV of it (playing against all the best). I just thought it might be fun. We'll keep it light and fun, in the spirit of the Gauntlet.

I strongly support a FREEZEOUT! It maintains the Gauntlet format.
I believe a separate new rebuy event can be added to the FTR Tournament Circuit!

A freezeout format works for me. If you hold this event on Pokerstars, then due to their format, you'd start out on 2 tables and then condense into 1 table about 10 minutes later (given 9 players per table). If you have 10 players then as soon as 1 player was eliminated you'd condense into 1 table also.

I'm going to miss out on this unfortunately, as I'm going on a stag weekend tomorrow. Good luck to everyone though, and roll on season VI.

I'm still going to miss this as I've had a change of plans and am in the Tampa Bay area, playing in SNGs and MTTs with my son! There is a slight chance I will get in and play at Tampa Airport until they call me to board! Timing is everything......BUT hell, yeah, I'm still the first one to register! Never know what can happen.

I call chananigans on this TOC. DCMirage registered but didn't show up until nearly the first break and was blinded down to 500 chips. Only 7 people showed up, and only 4 were left when he arrived. Someone went out, and he earned 3rd place FTR gear without even playing.

...well, I guess this doesn't happen if a decent # of people had showed up to play.
Not his fault, but the chip leader through the first hour has been Halfsame....the often recipient of DC's vacant blinds.
We're down to two players left, and nearly even stacks. Good luck Halvsame and C2Knuckles. :P

hahhahaha...It appears your enthusiasm paid off. Judging from EasyT's post, you squeezed into 3rd without even trying. Congrats to Knuckles and Halvsame.
What's up with only 7 players competing in the TOC? Wasn't there something like 50 people eligible? Hrumph.

More players showed up last season (albeit, not many more), when I only gave a few days' notice. This time, I gave people a couple weeks' notice and emailed the entire list of qualified players a week in advance. Not sure what more I could do. Based on the apparent lack of interest, we may not continue doing the TOCs in future seasons.

Nooooooo. Perhaps others will chime in, but maybe you can have the TOC the following week after the regular Gauntlet tourney ends. Just include the date into the Guantlet schedule so people will have an automatic notification. People who have qualified in the past will already know who they are so there's no need to email a reminder. People who finish in the top ten at the end of the current season will certainly know they'll be in the TOC. The final stretch of the Gauntlet is exciting and more people will likely play the following week. Just a thought.
Or.... maybe you can save the TOC until the end of the 10th season and award another trophy (or a few.)

Well, if no-one else is gonna take them then of course I'm gonna. In the beginning I think my small blind was attacked much more because he was sitting out in the BB, so I had to defend for both of us. After a while it started being folded to me in the SB, pretty obvious that I'm gonna take his blind then.
Not that it matters. For me the TOC comes across as much more of a friendly match than the gauntlet. It's all good fun but the gauntlet is where the glory's at. Shame that the turnout was low, but it's not like we want to force people into playing.

Thats sounds like a pretty good idea.
Having only 7 people was disappointing but it was still a fun little tourney.

I too like the idea of playing the week after the final tourney. I couldn't make the TOC as I was flying from CA to GA yesterday. Sounds like it was fun!!!

I agree on the week-after the Gauntlet schedule idea...I didn't play 'cause I have no money online right now, but when I'm back at it then I'll definitely play.
I'm also thinking that the TOC should go back to a $10+1 buy-in.

I did in fact play! I can't recall the number of hands but I believe there 6+ hands. I know there were 5 players including myself when I sat down. Obviously someone knew what to do when they saw that there were blinds to be stolen!
Now as far as body count is concerned, I was dedicated to support FTR TOC enough to preregister the day before in support. Gauntley V was my first venture on FTR. I truly enjoyed it and had a goal to make the top 10! Im into FTR big time. It has helped my game and I found a lot of fun and friends here. I would have come into play earlier but unfortunately I HAD TO TRAVEL TO THE AIRPORT to catch a flight! My flight was called as I finally busted out.
With only 7 players participating, I don't feel guilty at all. I represented. I wanted to win this thing! I wish I could have been there from the start but it was impossible. Hell, I tripled up after I sat down and wanted to make a run. It didn't happen but who knows, I might have taken the whole thing no matter how many people showed up.
SIDEBAR: I went to visit my son, daughter-in-law, and 1 yr old granddaughter In Tarpon Springs. On Friday, I took my son for his birthday to Derby Lane in St Petersburg where they have the dog track, televised horse races, and POKER ROOM. I played in a 120 player main event and took 12th, a 4 table MTT where I was bubbleboy, and a 1 table SNG where I came in 3rd. Cashed, cashed, and cashed, I was loving life. The locals definitely ganged up on me as the7y recognized a foreigner but the caaaash was still there. Like I said, I was ready to go medieval for the TOC. I'm a happy boy. When's the next FTR event!

Dude, it sounds like you had the perfect weekend! Playing poker with your son, kicking ass in the 120 tourney and doing well in the other games. Awesome. I bet your son was a bit impressed, eh?
Mirage and I kind of entered the Gauntlet just about the same time so it was fun to watch him do well. I gotta say how impressed I was with his play. He steadily improved each game and did so in a very stealth-like manner. Making the top 10 is a nice accomplishment and his support for FTR by pre-registering even if he might not be able to play was a nice touch. It's funny he scrambled to play and did well enough to jump into 3rd before the flight attendant forced him to put your tray in an upright position.
