Read World War Z on the weekend. It's good but left me wanting more. It's not short at ~420 pages but there's just so much more that could have been done without losing the richness of the story. No idea how they'll work it into a movie as there are just too many different characters.

One thing I don't understand with this and any zombie story is, why are there so many zombies if humans are food? Considering the feeding frenzies that are referred to, how is there anything left to reanimate, let alone the millions of zombies that appear more or less whole?

2) it has inspired me to go on a zombie binge. I've listened to the WWZ audiobook, watched Dead Set and Dawn of the Dead (2006), and I have a few more zombie movies lined up on my hd, and a few in mind to download.

I think we're witnessing history. This is truly WOAT. There's a bunch of stuff that's worse, but that's always obscure stuff nobody cares about. But when it comes to popular stuff, I can't think of any show as bad as this one. The deer scene and the pharmacy sex scene were easily the worst I can think of

Preface: I've wanted to see this TV series when it first came out but haven't seen an episode yet and i'm crushed to hear it totally blows ass now... anywho...

I was in coffee shop/bar this morning and they had Cast Away on one of the TVs (obviously not a beatnik-type shop)... and I thought of this thread. I don't mean to say anything about Cast Away as a movie, I've only seen it once when it first came out... but the "learning to figure shit out" segments of that movie I thought were among the most interesting at the time.

Zombah movies, tend to rush through this part for obvious reasons, but in a TV series you have so much room to just watch people figure shit out. Maybe people wouldn't find that interesting, but I think it's what is missing. Sure you aren't going to re-create the lone man... but idk, maybe you could. Something like this should follow multiple groups of people (lost-esque) and maybe there is a plot thread with whole episodes with just this one guy. He lives out in the country, and the small town near where he lives happens to be totally eff'd.

I think the key is authentic dialogue and situations... You can start out with a group of people... and do lots of improve activities to create dialog. It's fairly simple... just think... ok, what would this person honestly do. What would that person honestly do if they were in this situation. Plus having reasonably self-aware people that are excited or think it's hilarious that there are actual zombies for the first several episodes and then shifting to real problems. I felt like seeing Cast Away, (I just stopped and watched the scene where he's trying to open the coconut... and it made me think.. "damn this is so genuine..." and thought that should be essential to teh awesome zombies series.

That's why I think Stephen King is one of the best writers there ever was. His dialogue authenticity is second to none, also his character portrayals of normal folk

I do wonder how no one noticed the thing at the end before now. But, at the same time, the lame reason they'll provide for that having happened is bound to be entertaining in an unintended lol way.

I also wonder if the writers will have the courage to write in that the baby gets et but I have the feeling that won't be answered for 9-21 months in show time, which, at this pace, will be Season 45.

I've actually been really enjoying the show because of videogum and 2p2. It also helps me appreciate how good actual good shows are, especially Boardwalk Empire since it's the only other drama I'm watching now.

man, maybe I need to rewatch this weeks episode, but I think I actually enjoyed it. Obv preggers is awful... hell, pretty much all of the acting is atrocious-- but the pacing felt passable if not solid. Things actually happened. Things!

Even so, the way they milk the shit out of the strangest stuff is pretty tilting. The Horse Doctor vs The State of Rationality jury needs to stop deliberating.

Also.. how did Grimes not just march over to Shane and blow his head off? That's the momentum the show needed. Oh well, guess I have to just come to terms with the fact that the writers will never do anything that great.

p.s. fuck Dale. I hope the actor who plays Dale dies a painful, yet expedient death.

Huh, I thought this was the worst ep yet

There's clearly not even a woman in the writing room. Sudden cock grab and morning after pill was unbelievable. Whole bunch of lifetime channel walking and driving around in zombieland where I guess zombies dont exist. Farm girl is suddenly in love with one of the worst characters of all time. Old man is suddenly in love or some crazy shit with a girl we all thought he thought was his daughter. Apparently, Full Metal Jacket is required to teach somebody how to aim on their first day. Sudden zombie horde isn't so sudden when it's time to learn to shoot on the battlefield. Klassic Karl is recovered from multiple surgeries after like a week. Barn zombies as sick people is the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Guns are everywhere and nowhere, shoot them dont shoot them whatever. Anti-stereotyped redneck shoots all gansta, anti-stereotyped black guy says he dont want none of that shit

The only good part of this ep was when Dale picked up on Lori about to barf, but that was ruined when you remember that he didn't pick up on anything but was told by that dumbass. That woudl have been the first attempt at subtlety and good storytelling/development, but instead they have to tell instead of show. And they dropped the ball on a bleh scene turned okay when they have Andrea suddenly go John Preston then cut scene. A quick triple tap and three dropping zombies would have been in line with the story theyre trying to tell with Andrea, and it would have been an important piece of turning her into that character, but no they just suggest at a character development, but dont actually show it

ok ok, I was a bit sleep deprived when I watched it. I somehow glossed over a lot of shit, especially that creepy little chucky doll being completely healed.

as for the cock grab... I know it's absurd, but my honest first reaction was "heh heh, cool."

the drill sargent routine wasn't really bad at all, in and of itself. What was horrible was how she reacted, and then his reaction to her reaction. Either she needs to snap on him and stick the gun in his face, threatening to not miss if he ever mentions her sister again-- or, the softer approach, she can rapidly land several shots, then shove past him in anger. But whatever she does, she just is not allowed to whine like a little bitch. That shit is played out.

while on the subject of the blonde box of whine... Why wasn't she the one that died and her sister the one that lived? The actress that lived is so bad for this role, and the actress who died may have been perfect. This is such an awesome role for a younger girl who is more of a girly girl. Or if not a girly girl, at least innocent. You know, it's the whole buffy the vampire slayer thing (which I think neither the show nor the movie did a good job with, but at least they had the concept down.)

Frankly, the undertone of the entire show is adolescent boys mixed with daytime soap. So much of what happens with stories and characters is as if it spawned from the minds of sexually confused, narrow-minded, ignorant teenage boy

Just in this one episode off the top of my head

- Only adolescent boys would go Full Metal Jacket just because there's a gun and a lesson. Nevermind that learning how to shoot a gun has zero relevance with struggling to climb a wall

- Only adolescent boys would make a chick who expressed zero interest in any fashion whatsoever go sudden full cock grab

- Only adolescent boys would know this little about pregnancy

- Only adolescent boys would make a hot farm girl suddenly attracted to and suddenly in love with a bumbling, insecure dork who portrays virtually zero characteristics that girls find attractive (yet bumbling, insecure dorks wish they did). Oh and this hot farm girl somehow knows that this bumbling insecure dork is a smart leader without, you know, having any reason to

Damn, last night's episode was actually pretty awesome. The said thing is they wrote it that way as a cliff hangover because it was the mid season finale. They need to write each episode like this to have any chance of being a decent show.
