I do wonder how no one noticed the thing at the end before now. But, at the same time, the lame reason they'll provide for that having happened is bound to be entertaining in an unintended lol way.

I also wonder if the writers will have the courage to write in that the baby gets et but I have the feeling that won't be answered for 9-21 months in show time, which, at this pace, will be Season 45.

I've actually been really enjoying the show because of videogum and 2p2. It also helps me appreciate how good actual good shows are, especially Boardwalk Empire since it's the only other drama I'm watching now.

Here's a few of the jokes I made, posted on 2p2, not sure if you guys do that thread or not

I'm pretty sure the creators of TWD haven't seen Dead Set, and when thet do, they are going to feel very, very silly.

man, maybe I need to rewatch this weeks episode, but I think I actually enjoyed it. Obv preggers is awful... hell, pretty much all of the acting is atrocious-- but the pacing felt passable if not solid. Things actually happened. Things!

Even so, the way they milk the shit out of the strangest stuff is pretty tilting. The Horse Doctor vs The State of Rationality jury needs to stop deliberating.

Also.. how did Grimes not just march over to Shane and blow his head off? That's the momentum the show needed. Oh well, guess I have to just come to terms with the fact that the writers will never do anything that great.

p.s. fuck Dale. I hope the actor who plays Dale dies a painful, yet expedient death.

Huh, I thought this was the worst ep yet

There's clearly not even a woman in the writing room. Sudden cock grab and morning after pill was unbelievable. Whole bunch of lifetime channel walking and driving around in zombieland where I guess zombies dont exist. Farm girl is suddenly in love with one of the worst characters of all time. Old man is suddenly in love or some crazy shit with a girl we all thought he thought was his daughter. Apparently, Full Metal Jacket is required to teach somebody how to aim on their first day. Sudden zombie horde isn't so sudden when it's time to learn to shoot on the battlefield. Klassic Karl is recovered from multiple surgeries after like a week. Barn zombies as sick people is the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Guns are everywhere and nowhere, shoot them dont shoot them whatever. Anti-stereotyped redneck shoots all gansta, anti-stereotyped black guy says he dont want none of that shit

The only good part of this ep was when Dale picked up on Lori about to barf, but that was ruined when you remember that he didn't pick up on anything but was told by that dumbass. That woudl have been the first attempt at subtlety and good storytelling/development, but instead they have to tell instead of show. And they dropped the ball on a bleh scene turned okay when they have Andrea suddenly go John Preston then cut scene. A quick triple tap and three dropping zombies would have been in line with the story theyre trying to tell with Andrea, and it would have been an important piece of turning her into that character, but no they just suggest at a character development, but dont actually show it
  13. #88
Drastic Dale is the new Klassic Karl
  14. #89
ok ok, I was a bit sleep deprived when I watched it. I somehow glossed over a lot of shit, especially that creepy little chucky doll being completely healed.

as for the cock grab... I know it's absurd, but my honest first reaction was "heh heh, cool."

the drill sargent routine wasn't really bad at all, in and of itself. What was horrible was how she reacted, and then his reaction to her reaction. Either she needs to snap on him and stick the gun in his face, threatening to not miss if he ever mentions her sister again-- or, the softer approach, she can rapidly land several shots, then shove past him in anger. But whatever she does, she just is not allowed to whine like a little bitch. That shit is played out.

while on the subject of the blonde box of whine... Why wasn't she the one that died and her sister the one that lived? The actress that lived is so bad for this role, and the actress who died may have been perfect. This is such an awesome role for a younger girl who is more of a girly girl. Or if not a girly girl, at least innocent. You know, it's the whole buffy the vampire slayer thing (which I think neither the show nor the movie did a good job with, but at least they had the concept down.)
  15. #90
Now that they kinda fucked up Darryl, Glen is the only chance at a multi-dimensional character, aside from Shane. He's not the most terrible thing on this show by a long shot.
  16. #91
Glen talks and acts like he's fifteen.

Frankly, the undertone of the entire show is adolescent boys mixed with daytime soap. So much of what happens with stories and characters is as if it spawned from the minds of sexually confused, narrow-minded, ignorant teenage boy

Just in this one episode off the top of my head

    - Only adolescent boys would go Full Metal Jacket just because there's a gun and a lesson. Nevermind that learning how to shoot a gun has zero relevance with struggling to climb a wall

    - Only adolescent boys would make a chick who expressed zero interest in any fashion whatsoever go sudden full cock grab

    - Only adolescent boys would know this little about pregnancy

    - Only adolescent boys would make a hot farm girl suddenly attracted to and suddenly in love with a bumbling, insecure dork who portrays virtually zero characteristics that girls find attractive (yet bumbling, insecure dorks wish they did). Oh and this hot farm girl somehow knows that this bumbling insecure dork is a smart leader without, you know, having any reason to

Well, I guess it's not all adolescent boys because they show other retarded shit that isn't something only boys do, like telling the same fucking story every damn episode by way of two people emotionally arguing, or a chick walking down zombie avenue in a huffy while a bro tries to pick her up in his ride

The Shane/Dale scene was all right though. Still way too much telling and not showing, but whatever

Damn, last night's episode was actually pretty awesome. The said thing is they wrote it that way as a cliff hangover because it was the mid season finale. They need to write each episode like this to have any chance of being a decent show.

Shane is starting to kick some ass imo.

Oh, yeah, no more episodes until Feb 12th.

So, one minute of promise and now I have to wait. Damn.
  22. #97
you guys thought that episode was promising? It was god awful just like the rest. It was poorly directed, poorly acted, poorly conceived, etc, etc.
  23. #98
You must not have seen the part where I said "one minute".

And don't forget that bigred is crazy.
  24. #99
    where was the minute?
  25. #100
The very last one. Now that has happened, other stuff can happen. The guy who did the thing will change, most likely, and that's only a good thing. Can't really give it away.
  26. #101
Ya, I mean, I guess. But the lead up to all that was just so absurd. I mean, why was it that guy, except for contrived character development and that he posses a special tool that makes the act of doing what he did seem cool?

How about the herding scene? How retarded was that? I mean, there was supposed to be suspense or tension or something... yet I felt none of that. How do you make a scene like that and not make it in a way that has the audience on the edge of their seat?

Some creative teams need a big budget to make great work, some thrive with incredibly small budgets... I'm convinced that no matter what budget the Walking Dead crew was given, they couldn't turn out a good zombie show.

in a longass discussion with friend over why twd is so bad, which led to me correctly synopsing whats wrong with tv

it can never be overstated, corporations are not artists, they are lawyers and accountants. they dont actually know how to make good shows that people like. they are merely succubus leeching on the talent of the artists because of laws that protect things like ownership and their ability to generate capital

The reason for TWD is slightly disjointed.

People like it because it's an excellent topic and idea. Post-apoc and sci-fi has something for everybody. The problem is that producers and the corporate drones who run networks don't understand this, so they treat excellent content as if it's niche or undeveloped. They don't then give it the service it needs in order to show the audience what it really is

It's the Arrested Development problem. Everybody adored that show, but Fox's business model is reactionary. They don't understand art or how to develop products and services. So they kept shifting AD time slots and didn't run necessary ads because AD wasn't an immediate and obvious hit. This problem is expounded by the dumbing down of audience expectations with other programming, and program formatting. Timed, sequential programming of television is excellent evidence of this lack of business sense and reactionary model of leeching off of things that worked once. They do not understand entertainment markets, and that's why they never attempted to improve service by shifting into something like DVR/stream specific programming, and that is one of many reasons why they rely on superficial gotcha filth to catch an audience with just one view, instead of providing audiences with the easy ability to really chew into the meat

There's a reason why the internet has seen audiences with drastically different opinions. We recognize and love good art because the service is there to make it accessible. So the argument that "normal viewers are dumb" is just wrong. We're normal viewers, but with much improved service to view.

TWD is popular because of content that retard corporate executives think is a "niche", and TWD sucks because they turned it into a daytime soap because that's the only thing talentless drones know how to produce

Joe Rogan has talked a lot on his podcast of his experiences and knowledge of corporate managers utterly destroying shows by not knowing WTF they're doing. Something these idiots do not understand is that you do not tell an artist what art is, you just find an artist and promote the fuck out of him and his product. That is the key to success in the entertainment industry. But you won't find networks doing anything other than having their lawyers and accountants dictate everything

Also, why Breaking Bad is so good is because AMC is bound by contract to let the creators have much more say in the product. HBO seems to be the only network that actually understand that part of the correct model is to give artists as much power over their product as possible
  36. #111
Should add that TWD's popularity has nothing to do with the network's savvy; it is popular despite being buttfucked by no-talent assclowns. The networks are hailed as heroes because when a good show comes along, they take credit. But really they're just oligopolies with money and connections which reap such huge benefits that even when they suck ass they still see profits.

The amount of trial and error in TV is just stupid. They end up cancelling so many shows because they're not run by artists. If the exec heads took their cues from people like David Simon, the products they'd develop would be much stronger, and you wouldn't see a revolving door of shows just waiting for one to get lucky and snag a big audience.

How many James Cameron or Christopher Nolan movies bomb? Somewhere between none and very few. Because they actually understand entertainment and art. Let people like this dictate policy on networks, and you'll find they're all creating quality product. But instead it's just lawyers and accountants leeching off the talent

That's the thing Community has been dealing with. The network has gold in their hands, but they refuse to endorse it because their business model is "if audiences don't love it immediately, we have to give its slot to a new program". They do this because they don't actually understand how to engage audiences, only how to trick them or get lucky.

Watched this last night. I was pretty drunk, but I remember enjoying it. The ending was a little weak, and I unknowingly torrented a dubbed version. If you can find a rip that is in German, with subtitles, I'd suggest going for that, as the dubbing was pretty awful.

    still terrible.

There were at least half a dozen scenes that served absolutely no purpose. None at all. No wonder the story never moves. They have an ungodly amount of filler scenes that could completely be omitted.

First two episodes of the second half of season 2 have been awesome. I think you guys have closed the books on this show and are comfortable with continued hating regardless of any changes/developments.

I think one of the biggest reasons this show still has some lolwtf pointless scenes is the writers are having a clear dilemma with how to involve female characters in a meaningful way. They clearly see female characters as dependents and not strong for the survival/hunter/do what it takes skills necessary for this world. As a result, all female characters are emotionally driven impulsive characters who do nothing but create complications for the male survival characters. This couldn't be more evident by Lorrie's (sp) actions in the last two episodes. They should try hiring someone who doesn't have a dick or at least watch The Wire on how to write strong female characters.
    LOL OPERATIONS

I agree that this weeks episode was potentially a move in the right direction. There is a lot of horrible writing for the new show runner to navigate his way out of. But the first episode back was awful. It was truly bad.
  48. #123
I hated it. I will, however, say that the most sensible and well put together dialogue/character scene was in this ep i.e. when Shane told Lori Grimes was already back. Of course they pussed out on that train of thought by letting Lori get bitchy about being lied to and Shane doing something other than "bitch u crazy"
  49. #124
    videogum ftw

Herschel does a thing that people in TV and movies do which is called Silently Sneak Up On Someone Who Is Freaking Out And Holding A Gun and then Act Surprised and a Little Mad When They Almost Shoot You. How about just whispering “Glenn, it’s Herschel, don’t shoot me in the fucking face.”

My true disdain for this show is that they incessantly drop the ball on providing any meaning for anything. For example, the scene with Blackie and Blondie - when Blondie keeps telling Blackie to leave her to die - we get a sullen and quiet Blackie who decides to not let her die because of, well, whatever. They needed to have Blackie reference something along the lines of how she wont leave Blondie to die because there is so little life left in the world and that life is to be cherished and yadda yadda. But the writers never do anything like this. The characters are so different from normal people that they might as well be extra-terrestrials
  57. #132
Also, Lost style flashbacks are an absolute must to any post-apoc show. There is soooooooo much that can be done with those. For example, in a zombie apoc, one of the main survivors could be a pageantry type girl who wore high heels most her life and never needed to analyze anything with much depth, but the apoc forced her to completely change everything about herself in order to survive. The show could then contrast the ditzy blonde type from the flashbacks with the stone cold killer she becomes. There is a wealth of exploration into the human condition that post-apoc material can provide, but I have yet to see any of it

Please don't tell me you're a TWD apologist... This show is ripe for hate watching. The premise is amazing, the acting, directing, editing, and writing are awful relative to the premise to a degree that is humorous, and there are zombies. Really, if there is a show to Mystery Science 3000, this is it.

    hi
i've had a love/hate relationship with this show since every EP after the pilot but some of you have OCD levels of attention to detail as it pertains to this show

as long as the show can maintain a somewhat brisk pace, it should remain pretty entertaining. anything that remotely resembles the seven or so EPs from S2 where they looked for sophia will result in monkey tilt. still odd they spent so much time at the farm when in the comic they were basically in and out of hershel's farm.

I'd make the most boring zombie show ever, as it would involve the cast finding and clearing a navy ship (or other large boat), and living happily ever after on an island. None of this holing up inside of a zombie infested prison or farm with no natural protections being forced to fight your way out if under attack. Just clearing the boat little by little, sleeping on the deck until it's finished, then sailing away to find a good place to grow crops, etc.

But I would have flashbacks. And shotguns. So better than TWD anyways.

ya, I have high hopes for WWZ. I got the audio version of the book, was my first time listening to a book, and it was decent. But even though it wasn't great, the people involved with WWZ and the fact that it is departing pretty drastically from the book, so it will essentially be a high budget, high production value, zombie flick, have me excited for its release.

The water is no deterrent for a being that doesn't need to breathe.

Zombies be walkin on the ocean flo.

zombies walking across the bottom of a lake or something needs to be done, but they wouldn't get far at all when it comes to rivers and the ocean. depending on their mentality, a zombie apocalypse could actually see a ton of them get stuck in the ocean under pressure or obstacles or currents or eaten by sharks

I didn't like this in WWZ. Rotting flesh produces gasses, gasses which get caught in the flesh. These gases are buoyant. A zombie that walked into water would likely just get pushed around with the current... I guess some would wash up on beaches, but they'd likely be too decomposed to do much zombieing.

Yeah, the whole concept of zombie decomposition isn't dealt with enough, imo. It doesn't make sense to me that a zombie dead for a few weeks should have an intact abdomen, since the body's digestive enzymes mean that it starts to digest itself. Walking around would likely lead to punctures and evacuation of entirely liquified organs. After two or three weeks, other flesh should be totally black.

And why aren't there bugs everywhere?

ya, this is why I've always enjoyed zombie fiction that occupies the hours/days/weeks(at most) after the epidemic. Obv it is all fiction, but skeleton warriors require much more suspension of disbelief than people infected by a virus that essentially makes them "undead" and have a craving for brains. Of course WWZ and TWD zombies aren't magically assembled skeleton archers, but the disregard for biology makes them further along on the spectrum then say, zombies from 28 days (who, iirc, aren't actually dead, but just infected with a virus that causes them to rot away and crave brains).

Furthermore, TWD has made me realize how much more I enjoy fast, 28 days type zombies when compared to the traditional slow shuffling lot that are present in older fiction and TWD.

Regardless of how they react to the water, it would still be a better deterrent than none. In Walking dead the zombie caught only partially submerged in the well fell apart when being pulled up. So if they decompose to some extent that makes it hard to zombie as boost said. And even if they were just fine, they wouldn't be able to climb the side of a large boat, or likely to make it to a distant island in large enough groups to cause damage. Not to mention, if I lived on an island, then they would have to deal with the large ditch I dug around the outer portion of the island.

But instead, let's just hole up inside of a zombie infested prison, or play house on a farm.

Oh and can animals not be infected/zombified? Not sure if the infection is supposed to only apply to humans, but I want to see like a zombie dog just wrecking shit.
