Just booked a trip to London for two weeks in October with my gf. Looking for advice on places to stay, things to do, etc. However, if I only get one piece of advice from this thread I want to know the best way to get decent Arsenal tickets. There's a home game October 16th against Birmingham City. This would be an amazing experience and I don't want to pass it up.

Plenty of general advice will follow when I have more time but I'll investigate the issue for you. Best way might actually be to get the tickets from Birmingham or from the web/tout (at inflated prices).
I'll see what I can find out.

you mean England doesn't have a goddamn Tickets at StubHub! Where Fans Buy and Sell Tickets or something similar?
Stubhub.com -- nothing like it?
I mean this is England, not Communist China, right?

Keep an eye on that page for when the Birmingham game is listed and cross your fingers it gets marked blue for general sale.
Otherwise, Live Football Tickets seem legit. Not sure how they are offering tickets for games that far in advance but they must have access to them to be doing so.

You'll struggle to tickets at Arsenal. I might be able to sort some for you. I'll ask my mate at work whos a Gooner - would you need 2 tickets?
I'll post some ideas up for things to do.
Could maybe get all the southern FTR's out for a beer on the Southbank or something?

Does Bigred actually support Arse nal in which case sending him to blues for tickets could be interesting. tickets can be posted for a 50p surcharge. general sale will be after members have had first choice so a chance that none will be left for top teams.

If you get Arsenal tickets without big hassle, you're better at being English than me. Pray they somehow allocate a general sale or probs best way is to tout them.

No tickets from me I'm afraid for the Arse, bloke I was thinking of got rid of his extra season tickets - he recons general sale if you're very lucky. Or a tout...
Other option is to go and watch the real London side; the mighty Irons. I can defo get tickets for them - cause no one wants to watch them!
I'm defo keen for a beer on the Thames one night - what dates are best for all??? Assuming you're keen Red?!?!

Dunno if night clubs will be our scene. Any badass must visit old pubs would be awesome though.

Some tips still to follow but your best bet when you touch down is to pickup a copy of The Guardian newspaper on a Saturday. 'The Guide' inside it will give you tons of ideas of stuff to see and do. 'Time Out' will also help.

I know tons of pubs around London. Fuck Clubbing!!!
what might be an idea is to meet up and do a pub crawl along Hammersmith. Theres loads of cool pubs along the river.
The Blue Anchor was were they filmed Sliding Doors, then further down is The Dove which has the smallest snug in the world - and also I think Wordsworth finished the poem Upon Westmonster Bridge - though I could be making that up!
Then on to the Cross Keys where James May and Hamster from Top Gear drink most nights - I've also seen Paul Wellar and Ocean Colour Scene there many times.
Could be fun.
Or just along the Southbank is always good - Great gastopub called The Anchor and Hope. Amazing food and wine/beer.

Red,
On a bright sunny day, be sure to take in the London Eye (The London Eye's official website for the best online ticket prices, guaranteed). Some people don't like it but I think it's great and isn't too be missed for tourists. You can book online.
Days out and such depend on what you're bag is but if you like Art, you'll be spoiled for choice. Tate Modern, Tate Britain, National Gallery, Saatchi Gallery. Some charge, some don't. Some charge for specific exhibitions.
You're obviously spoilt for history generally but it depends what you like. Any book will point you in the direction of the major spots but post if there's something specific you or your lady are interested in. I still recommend "Time Out" and "The Guide" for details of what's on while you're here.
Ditto for eating out - it depends how much cash you have.
Here's a link to "Time Out" discussing old London pubs - London's oldest pub - Features - Time Out London
I'm still working on the Arsenal tickets.
More to follow.....

You can book in advance and buy fast track tickets. Infact, Red is a player so I'm sure he'll be going for the "champagne flight".

I straight up liked it (getting anywhere tall where there's an observation platform or whatever is always first on my list in big cities, that shit's just cool), I just thought the wait was ludicrous.
I didn't know about the fast tack tickets, though, that's definitely the way to go.

Red, how determined are you to see Arsenal?
I think your best bet is to purchase a Red Membership Ticket for around £27 (a reliable UK FTR member will probably have to get it for you). All this does is get you priority on buying tickets so you should definitely get tickets but you'll have to pay for them on top. The problem is that you'll need to buy two if you want two tickets because, for the Birmingham game, it's strictly one ticket per member. So that's £52 before you start.
These are designed for use all season long so a bit pricey for your needs but it should do the job. May still work out cheaper than touted tickets. The other downside is that silver members get to buy seats before you so they may pickup the cheaper seats before you are able to buy.
If you want to go down this route you need to move relatively quickly on this because they can take up to ten days to arrive in the post and tickets go on sale to red members on September 16th.

Maybe you guys can help me out while you're here..
I'm moving from the sticks to Leeds in a few weeks, and I will obv want to spend some time down Elland Road. Unfortunately the prices are £24-29 for shit seats and £32-34 for good seats. Apart from a season ticket, are there any tricks/manoeuvres people do to get cheaper tickets?

No idea about Leeds I'm afraid Ash. Some clubs do loyalty schemes and stuff. Your best bet is to get on a Leeds forum I reckon.

Bump. Flying to london tomorrow night. I'll be in London between the 13-17 and the 23-26. Already have plans for the night of the 16. If anyone still wants to grab a drink let me know. I doubt I can be out super later so if you're traveling far it might not be worth your time.
