first some gossip then the hand: ivey is taking bets at 1.8:1 that he wins a bracelet this year. andy bloch has 180k on it, ted forrest has 500, eli elezra (who was sitting next to me and told me this directly) has 500k on it too. i heard greg raymer took action but im not sure of the amount.
i keep raising the full potsize preflop (important because we are playing pot limit) and when i do it vs negreanu's blind, before folding he tells me im raising too big and that i should make it smaller.
he asks "is that what you would do in no limit?"
gabe: "i dont play no limit"
dn: "well what do you play?"
gabe:" i dont really play poker, my parents just paid for me to play this"
dn:"oooh you got rich parents?"
gabe:"yea they are well off"
dn: "real estate??"
gabe:"yup"
then he leaned to guy next to him and whispers something right after this conversation, which im sure was about me but not sure what he said.
a few hands later he minraises, i call with ATo on button, old nit in blind calls. i have been splashing around alot and they have both been pretty tight.
flop T45, checked to me i bet 2/3 of the pot, old guy check raises me, i call.
turn K, he bets a little more than half, i call. i thought about folding because this was over an hour in and hadnt seen the guy raise anything.
river 4, he checks which makes me pretty sure i have the best hand, although he could have jacks. i bet the pot (remember i almost folded the turn, now im making a huge value bet), old guy calls and shows QT.
hand doesnt seem like too much ownage but getting value from an OLD GUY when i have 2nd pair is pretty sick imo.
BUT main point is while im collecting chips, negreanu makes eye contact and gives me a little head nod type of thing because he was watching the hand closely. i also talked to him some about the canadian football league and even got him to say 'atta boy!!' the first time i didnt raise full pot on his big blind

also i find it a little strange that a 'full pot' preflop raise would get attention.. obviously it's the max but it's more or less pretty standard, give or take a little, even in NLHE. 3.5xbb, or 3.5xbb + 1bb per limper (assuming not in the blinds where it gets slightly more complicated).

Phil Ivey is Good at Poker
04 Jun 2008
I was cruising right along up over 100k in the tournament with little risk. I made one sick call in a hand where I was totally prepared to call a shove on the river:
I raised with 77 from early position to 1400 with blinds at 300-600 (75) and the button called (internet player) as did the big blind. The flop came 10-10-8 with two hearts and I fired 2500, the button raised me 4200 more and didn't buy it- so I called. The turn was a 2 and I check called 8600. Totally had the kid on complete air based on a physical tell I felt strongly about. River was a J, a seemingly bad card but it didn't scare me all that much. I checked. he had about 22,000 and I'd already decided I was calling it if he bet. He gave it up and tapped the table....................................

We played online during the same time as my encounter with Lyric. She has nice orange boobs. Seriously though, she sounds like a really nice girl. Good player too.
We should totally have a threesome online with her.

Highlights: I busted Eric Seidel. I threebet a lot of internet kids who I was supposed to be in awe of,but since I don't know who anyone is, I just raised.
