what the hell was the big hand they were talking about? they're missing hand 16 in the updates and it says phillips went from 1st to 8th place?

Ivan Demidov has the button in Seat 7. Dennis Phillips limps in from under the gun. All fold to Demidov, who raises to 1,025,000. It's 9.395 million more back to Phillips, which is more than he has. Demidov has Phillips covered by about 800,000. It would seem Phillips can't call without anything but a monster.

Phillips seems to reach the same conclusion. He folds! Demidov is now the far-and-away chip leader with 35,875,000. It's a huge blow for Phillips, who now has less than 9 million chips.

Darus Suharto has the button in Seat 5. Action folds to Craig Marquis in middle position, who open-shoves for 4.925 million. Scott Montgomery calls, drawing a gasp from the crowd. There are still three players behind Montgomery (and for what it's worth, Kelly Kim, who has less than 1 million chips again, is on his feet).

Everyone else folds, and the hands are opened

Marquis: {7-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}
Montgomery: {A-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}

Marquis is the all-in player and has a slight EV advantage. The dealer spreads the flop. It's a {10-Spades} in the door, followed by the {A-Hearts}... followed by the {7-Clubs}! Montgomery hits top pair, but Marquis manages to find bottom set. Only running cards stand between Montgomery and a double-up.

The first runner comes on the turn -- the {J-Diamonds} makes Marquis sweat. Any king on the river will make a Broadway straight for Montgomery. A hush descends in the Penn & Teller Theater. "Let's see the river card," says TD Jack Effel.

{K-Spades}

A roar from the crowd as Montgomery completes the runner-runner Broadway straight to take out Marquis! Marquis is visibly stunned, but graciously shakes Montgomery's proffered hand. He will be the only player to leave today's final table without any additional cash as he is eliminated in 9th place.

Players are on a short break as Craig Marquis gives his bust-out interview to ESPN.

So Friday I played a tournament got down to four people and was playing with a guy who won the Heartland Poker Tour, that guy had beat Dean Hamrick Heads up to win the HPT. Dean Hamrick who final tabled the ME but out in 10th.

So by association if I were to play the ME I would finish between 40th-10th place.

We are now on a dinner break. Play will resume at 7:15pm local time.

Just prior to starting the dinner break, there was a pause in the action to announce a multi-year sponsorship deal for All-In Energy Drink as the official energy drink of the World Series of Poker. This is a Johnny Chan endeavor, and TD Jack Effel called Phil Hellmuth to the stage to introduce Chan.

"That's ok, you guys can boo," said Hellmuth as he mounted the stage. The gallery complied, to Hellmuth's delight. After a few kind words about Chan, Hellmuth called him to the stage.

"Who's gonna win, Johnny?" asked Hellmuth.

"I don't care who's going to win," replied Chan. "I just care who's going to drink the most All-In Energy Drink."

"That was a pretty shameless plug, Johnny."

Maybe so, but Chan didn't seem to care.

I kinda figgured it would be over by now.

Only 2 guys have an M over 20 at this point, with a few of the guys at an M of at the 17-16 range. Its going to become a wtf flippament here soon and then the tourney will REALLY suck.

The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

With each year I care less about the final table. If Mike, or Phil would have made it, I'd have something to root for. I don't care in the least who makes it now.
