There have been a couple of mentions to me via PM that some of the avatars used in our forums are a bit too risque for some people to feel comfortable viewing from work.
We, the administrators, personally do not have a problem with the imagery, but if it keeps certain members from browsing our poker forum at work, it's a problem.
This poll will run for 15 days. Majority voice will be made policy.

How about we have AAW from Friday at 5 PM until Sun at 11PM
Ass Avatar Weekends
Then those that can get away with it can spend the week looking for a great new ass avatar for the rest of us to enjoy over the weekend

The only avatar i find a bit too ballsy is Boondock's. Look at that squirrel's eyes... freakin me out.
So if you could put a censor bar or something on its face, it'd be fine.

I don't mind either way but I could see some companies not wanting "porn" images showing up on there network, thus they will block the site and that's no good...
Note I voted no being a smart ass… sorry…

Obviously my avatar isn't offensive so I don't care which way you pick but can't the people at work just use the html version?

I think as long as you can't see the nips, franks, or beans (The human kind ). It's all good. If the yes votes have it. Then what will exactly constitue a work friendly avatar.

I think you should be doing work at work and hobbies such as poker in your own free time. That's my vote.

Then you are in the wrong forum my friend.
It really depends on what kind of job you have. My job affords me the ability to cruise the internet and play poker. When a call comes in I just disconnect from the net and save some lives. Then it's back to play time. God I love my job. *Kisses his trusty axe*

I'm on the fence here. On the one hand we want people to be able to express themselves freely and be creative with the avatars. On the other hand people should be able to go to the site at work without worrying about the avatars or anything. The avatars still show up on the html version so that isn't really an option.

You could add an option, in our profiles, to display or not display all avatars. Just click the box for when you want to view the forum in a "work safe" manner. Thats what I've seen on other forums.
|
|
Is that guy still part of the forum??

This seems like a great idea if it's possible. Then those of us reading at work wouldn't have to worry. I can read at work, but I'd feel a little uncomfortable if someone walked in and saw an ass avatar. They might wonder what I'm really looking at.

Hehe
Well if we decide to change them I'll gladly remove my Avatar of Amber from survivor.. Stuff Magazine
As i'm sitting at work, a few of the avatars (including my own) make me abit nervous about who's walking past my desk.

All you lucky people can view FTR from work.
On one side I can see people wanting "Work Friendly" and if the avatar offends, I would want those people to continue to visit.
On the other side, when I could visit from work, I tried to avoid showing people that I was viewing any leasure site from work. It was the "non-work poker site" that I didn't want them to know about. Not the "picture of an ass"
Side note: It's funny, when FTR got blocked from my work, that's when I realized that I hated work so much. I wonder if they are related? WHen I couldn't goof off all day, I really started to dred going in.

This isn't currently possible, but I'll see if there's a phpBB mod that does this.

See, what you have to do is position your monitor such that you are facing the outside of your cube/office and the back of your monitor is facing the door of your cube/office! Then you just keep a work-related program open and whenver anyone stops by you just click on that program to bring it to the front! See? Always thinkin'! **taps temple with finger**

I view this board from work via a telnet session to my linux server at home and then using a text browser so I can't see the avatars and don't have the problem about risky pics. Usually this is not a problem but after hearing all about xbones avatar all over the forums I can't wait to get home and see it
If anyone else can't get to the website from work and wants to try out using my server & don't mind using a text browser let me know and I will set a user for you to try.

Well, just to throw in my $0.02...
I personally love most of the avatars, that said I've got a lot more time for the ones that look really smart or cool or original (step forward, Rippy...), but as long as it's not outright offensive I couldn't give a rat's ass what people want to use to represent themselves when posting.
HOWEVER, the only time I ever access the FTR boards is when I'm at work, during lunch, and I've lost track of the times I've had to alt+tab to get rid of the page when someone walks up behind me. I've had no complaints, and the site hasn't been blocked for me, I'm just conscious that I'm in an office environment and I'm pretty sure my female colleagues don't want to see some supermodel's near-naked ass every time they glance at my monitor.
I agree that there should be nothing about FTR that precludes anyone from using it.

well looks like I gotta find a way to disable the avatars here at work.
Boss said what are you looking at. I said a forum and some people put "nice" ladies at there avatar. He just laughed but I quickly closed the window once the squirrel came up. hehe
Anyone have any tips on disabling them from the work stand point but not at home?

the squirrel
Would you be talking about this squirrel. Weird I didnt think this offensive material. If any of my bosses saw it they would probably laugh their asses off and then be like hey you cant have those women on the screen. I used to actually have a shiana Hiatt calander tacked up on my cube wall but after a few complaints to HR (who said nothing to me by the way) I decided to take it down. I dont want every old woman in this place against me.

I am not sure if this would work but if you use mozzila there is an option to block images, not sure if it would work but just an idea. I did not vote because it does not affect me, though i enjoy some of the eye candy.

I believe that is a server side fix, meaning it won't do anything unless one of the admins installs it.
I think it's a great idea since the vote was so close. Please all of the people, all of the time.

I have to say that it's really important to have work freindly avatars for those poeple who are uncomfortable viewing FTR from work. We have to make this site available for everyone, and if it means getting rid of the eye candy so be it. Personally, I don't have any problems with lady avatars because I only acces FTR from home.
Ill leave this decision up to Xianti and Tyson
