I have been going through the archives lately to read some old strategy posts, mainly by Lukie and Fnord.

The name Rippey came across a few times, mainly while referring to bluffy plays. After a while I got it that the player referring to was known here as Rypptide. But is shows he is banned after that and his posts are removed/not readable.

I was wondering who Ripptyde was and why he has been banned. Was he any good?..or just an asshole? I read some quoted posts from him and some of them seemed pretty in-depth. He seemed relatively well known around here, so I'm just curious who he was, what happend to him.

He was not a nice man, and he got banned because of this.

A former member of this forum. He is really loose, aggressive action junkie and had serious tilt control problems. His basic approach to the game was to try to run people over and then freeroll off his no showdown winnings to generally take the worst of it when all the money went in. Although sometimes his opponents would get all the money in with even more absurd holdings, particularly at smaller stakes. He would tell you he has multiple gears, but in reality he only has 2, fast and tilting. Once you figure all of this out it's really easy to get the best of him with a little re-bluffing and refusal to fold pretty good hands.

He's been banned from multiple forums and has probably gone busto several times as he's often seen PMing, IMing and IRCing people for stakes/loans.

Oh, his favorite hand is 74 offsuit. His favorite bluff is to play any Axx board like he has the nuts.

That should pretty much catch you up.

Classic Riptyde moment: (from memory, sketchy on the details.)
Rip makes one of the bigger rebuy final tables with BRSavage who's #1 on the P5's leaderboard at the time. Rip finds out and goes on total penis-envy tilt. I'm sweating him at the table + IRC and relate the message of "No Deal" (minus some 4 letter words) because PokerStars had pretty much perma-banned his chat by this point. Rip then starts pushing every hand once it's down to the final 5 or so saying "I'm going to bust his ass with rags" on IRC. BRSavage mans up and calls off most of his 50bb+ stack with Ace-rag, which is way the best hand and holds to bust Rip out. Then the remaining players deal.

Hehe ok. I was expecting some kind of bizar story.
Though in the threads I read, it seemed like he got some respect around here at the time. Was that because he had a kind of innovative approach to the game? Or was that just before he went nuts?

Most people who play like him don't contribute on forums.

When we first learn poker we tend to play too loose and passive. Next we learn to tighten up, then we learn to get aggressive. Rippy pushed and talked about aggression at that point in our growth. He also showed that you can run over loose/passive players because their weak hands will call the cheap streets but won't commit more often than not when faced with the real money. People miss him for that.

Your 'get help' one liner and subsequent lock of my response thread to you is disappointing Brian. You responded to me with little or no substance other than to imply that I am in need of psychological help. I was looking for a response with a little more substance other than just writing me off as some kind of mental patient. I tried to keep my post in the poker arena rather than insulting your character....obviously you opted for the easy way out which was to fire off a quick one liner implying I am in need of counseling of some sort.

I'd like to point out once again that you have never missed an opportunity to chime in on any thread concerning me since I was banned here. The fact that you are taking pot shots at someone who doesn't have the ability to respond, speaks volumes about your own character. You (or anybody else for that matter ) have absolutely NO business casting judgement on someone elses state of mind or state of being. Ask yourself why you felt compelled to fire off your blurb about how disturbed up I am in a double barreled post. I'm genuinely curious what exactly qualifies you to lay down the gauntlet here. Firing off your 'closing comment' and then locking the thread after I took the time to address you in detail is weak and cowardly. I am more than happy to stand front and center with you or anybody else for that matter and debate ethics and/or poker. As far as pointing out the fact that I have looked for stakes ? LoL yea thats a no brainer and I have been staked for as much as 5K before which worked out extremely well for both me and my staker when I took 13th in the Sunday Million.

I was chatting to Lee Watkinson on FT the other day (he is friendly enough to chat to rail birds) and I asked him if the rumor that 3/4 of well known tourney pros are either busto or staked was true...He said simply 'thats a conservative estimate'....point being that you have never had the guts to even play big events let alone 'take shots'..... Doyle, Johnny Chan and countless other name pros have been busto many many times...so pointing out the fact that I have solicited stakes is not only pointless but irrelevant to my ability as a poker player. (also I would love to see even one person EVER come forward and say that I scammed them for $) in addition, If your bankroll management is so stellar...then please explain to me why your attempt to 'go pro' failed so miserably. You have a lot of nerve pointing the finger when you haven't accomplished shit other than 14,000 + posts as a second rate moderator on this forum.

In short , the head admin in charge here failed to prevent a handful of complete imbecils from taking over this forum lock, stock and barrel and I started deleting posts and going off on the negative bashtard patrol. I am 100% guilty of losing my composure.

And for the record I was not 'banned'

Xianti should confirm the fact that I sent him a detailed email announcing my resignation as a mod and a member here at least 2 weeks prior to my departure and this 'ban' . This so called 'ban' is a fallacy in every sense of the word and has been publicized and promoted heavily only to discredit me further and to justify the fact that control of this forum was virtually nonexistent during the course of a member surge.

How soon they forget. I recruited countless members to this site and contributed tirelessly and happily for almost 2 years for the sheer joy of sharing ideas and talking poker. This 'meltdown' came only after certain douchebags got a free pass to flame away with no consequence.

LoL Brian you are unbelievable. I've contributed more on poker forums than you could ever hope to in 10,000 lifetimes. Even if a good chunk of it is self pwnage and meltdowns LoL The funny thing is I really dgaf. Its not as if the poker community is full of altar boys and future presidents. Compared to 1/2 the craziness I've read about (Phil Laak, David Williams, Gavin Griffin, Vinnie Vinh etc etc etc etc etc...my act pales in comparison. I pride myself on being an ethical person and I don't apologize for (or deny) soliciting stakes or hitting friends up for a few bucks now and then if I was busto. Its not your place or anyone elses place to pass judgement on the state of my, or anyone elses bankroll. Its sewing circle crap... nothing more. Everybody I ever hit up for $$ got it back I have never scammed anyone in my entire life*

* except for maybe dwarfman...he has threatened legal action via email for an alleged $10.00 unpaid debt. (which I am disputing) I look forward to seeing him in court.

also I would like to reiterate again that I am not here to start anything or stir the pot, but I am not going to sit idle and let Fnord or anybody else slander me with ficticious embellishments and third person comments with little or no substance whatsoever. I won't dispute much of whats been written about me, but when it comes to spinning the truth and misinterpreting reality I am going to step up and defend myself regardless of the fallout.

Rippy, do you think chasing down Fnord to set the record straight and clear the air about you is normal?

Do you think that your father would do such a thing if someone posted a note at his least favorite bar saying that he was prone to making rookie mistakes at Hearts and that holding on to the Q of spades will easily handle him?

Here is what I think about you Rippy. You're emotional. And you're decisions are guided by this aggressive personality. You probably backwards rationalize all of your decisions to help firm up your belief in yourself.

The underlined part is you backwards rationalizing - "Oh, I mean it's OK to defend myself against lies but I'm not going to go to CRAZY lengths to protect my name, amirite?!"

When Fnord says get help, it can be as small as just not responding to this post in an angry emotional state. Just pay attention to how you feel when reading what I've written.

He just might be the king of personal attacks in the history of FTR, but look how sore he gets over one perceived personal attack from Fnord. He's the typical guy who can dish it out but can't take it.

I don't actually know anyone here personally and have no vested interest in this situation, but I like that post. I know I learned a lot from reading his posts when I first started playing. I think that it is too bad that his early stuff was removed as it would be nice to be able to reread some of it when I find myself getting too passive/scared.

Ripptyde is a crazy ass dude, but I learned a lot from him. His problem was that he often didn't follow his own advice.

I can honestly say that Ripptyde at the very least has something to do with me winning 20K+ online over my career. His concepts opened a gateway for me, to a lot of important knowledge which helped me.

Ripptyde was directly responsable for my very first FT.

I won a prop bet for $5 that he would ask for a stake within 2 min of starting a convo with him on AIM and used that to play a $4.40 where I FT'd. Holla.

I have no grudge with anyone at this forum. I made some huge mistakes and said I lot of things I regret here so 100% of the fallout falls squarely on my shoulders.

I sincerely doubt I would ever have taken 'legal action', that was more of a knee jerk reaction at a difficult time in the growth phase of FTR's evolution as a community , but at the time I was very upset and lost control on multiple levels over the course of a few months... so thats essentially why I wanted all my posts removed. I didn't like the idea of having 2000 some odd posts floating around if I was being escorted out.

Anyway, I really used extremely poor judgement and reacted with a lot of emotion then somehow everything kind of spiraled out of control and I certainly don't blame Xianti for asking me to leave.

FTR is still a good group of guys for the most part and I hope everybody here prospers.
