Post subject: What's the latest on Boondock?

Obviously new to FTR, I have been awaiting an opportunity to make a worthwhile post. Can't imagine a more worthwhile opportunity for me personally. I have a bit of experience that hopefully Boon and his family may find helpful.
To start with - my sincere concern and best wishes go out to Boondock and his family for a continued recovery. In the last weeks I have attempted to catch up on the history and progress of Boon's injury and have not found any real fresh news.
My experience includes having watched my brother blow his femur out the back of his leg a few years back, as well as being the husband of a wife that still copes with the lingering effects of a major head trauma incurred 23 years ago. While I am no doctor phil, hopefully I can add a few words of encouraging advice. Again, I apologize if I am not up to date or posting something obvious, moot or redundant.
Boon is entering a stage that will be critical to his long term coping with whatever permeanant effects of his injury may exist. Here are the things that I have observed as being most important at this stage...
1 - Attitude, seems Boons is pretty good.
2 - Support, again seems Boons is pretty good. Credit Boons brother for being right on top of his role from the start.
3 - Determination, still getting high marks. Do something every day to make some progress.
4 - Research, learn all you can about anything that even remotely relates to the injury. It will help balance the ebbs and flows of recovery.
5 - Balance, the best of recoveries are two steps forward, one step back processes, avoid getting too high on the good days or too low on the bad days. Support is critical here, it takes a special type of support to give a light kick in the butt on the feel sorry for oneself days and a healthy dose of reality on the too good to be true days.
6 - Hope, medical science continues to amaze me. There is no such thing as a complete recovery or a permeanant injury. In my wife's case, stem cell research offers a great deal of hope for the regeneration of damaged brain cells, something medical science has completely ruled out forever prior.
7 - Risk/Reward, related to balance and hope, there may be some new studies or unproven proceedures that could benefit Boon. These things must be considered very carefully. One has to take a few chances to benefit from the latest in medical science, but the risk needs managed. Typically the risk is related to the psychological aspects of recovery more so than the physical.
8- "Now remember, when things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. 'Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That's just the way it is."
The list could go on and on, but I'll end it with these top items. I can't help but notice that once again, poker is an outstanding microcosm of life. I'm sure Boon knows this, but use poker to learn about recovery and use recovery to learn about poker.
Once again, my best wishes to all involved for a continued recovery. And my respect and admiration for the FTR community for rallying around him. I hope Boon or someone else can fill me in on the latest. - Josey

Boon' falls down and gets a couple scrapes and bruises. FTR reaches out with moral support and money. Boon takes it, skips town, and runs off to Vegas. Last I heard, him and Rada were playing the quarter slots together at the Golden Nugget.

You might be a stupid redneck if...
...you play the bank of quarter slot machines with a big pick-up truck on top. (actually seen at the Sahara)

Seems Boon is having trouble applying some of my points. Support dries up real quick when you run the wrong way with it. No wonder 'rilla ate him. I wish him luck, but he's got his only free roll from me. Thanks for the set straight Nuts.

I was being sarcastic. You actually wrote a really well thought out post. As far as I know Boon is doing well. He moved out to Vegas with some friends and they got an apartment together I think? He posted some post-surgery pics if you didnt happen to see them. He also started a thread about his journey to Vegas if you want to do a search. Rada on the other hand I dunno...

you guys are tricky, its about a cointoss how folks react to this kind of stuff, usually run both ways at different times, glad my original faith and that of FTR is well placed after all
ty for the compliment Nuts, didn't have to do much thinking, been living it for years, brother nearly died when his big bone busted his femural artery and nearly bled him out, luckily it was in DC and had same trauma team that fixed Reagan when he was shot, wife's injury is a daily guessing game, never know when her thoughts might short out, saw Boon's picture post but didn't look in, seen enough blood and guts including brothers incident, 1st gulf war, wifey's 2 c-sections and Joe Theisman
you can count on my posts being solid, I'm currently a poker moron but intend to change that asap, mostly find me posting in beginner for awhile I suppose, thanks again and thanks in advance for all the wisdom I plan to gain from you smart folks at FTR

Well i'm meeting DavSimon at the bellagio in about 30 minutes to watch the WPT - i was there yesterday and saw just about every big name known to man - doyle gave me a free shirt - i was inches from Chan, Deeb, Nagranue, Siedel, Matesow, Juanda, Tuan lee, his brother, Kido Pham, Danneman, Hachem, like 312904890238 others - every person ive ever seen on TV was there except hellmuth, moneymaker (which i see at MGM like all the time anyway), and raymer.
The only slots I played was when I was on the phone with my mom sitting at a slot I saw a nickel in the change thing so i dropped it in the machine and lost and then my roomate gave me a nickel that he had in a pocket and I put it in and won 2.50 then put it in a .25c machine and lost the whole 2.50 lol. I havent actually used any of my own money on slots or anything but poker and never will.
I take my leg pretty serious. I havent even had a single drink yet while in vegas cause I know its bad for it.
Update on the state of tourist poker.
Had a guy call 125 preflop with K2 against QQ
Another guy called 15 preflop with 73 - went all in the hand before with J3 on 9TJ flop so I knew he was a moron. Of course I had KK and he doubled up off me when the flop was 334 - he only had 80 or something left on his stack. 35 dollar call with 85o. Saw a person call 2 all ins in a row - first he had 23o - second he had 750. People not raising the nuts in last position at the river. Few big big arguements with poker managers - drunkeness usually is a factor lol.
There are like 1000 other things just as retarded. I just wish I could 10 table these same players online and u could make a million dollars in like a year.
I still cant jog or anything like that - i still walk like a retard - but besides that it all seems good.
I paid all my bills in cash because it was either 21,000 to be paid over like god knows how long or if i paid in a a lump I ended up getting off between 12-13k somewhere. So I dont have any bills of any sort related to my leg anymore. I would like to get the screws out of my leg sometime since it rubs my muscles the wrong way and the one in my knee area likes to stab me at random times. That will be another few thousand. But besides that - i think thats it.
I thought I'd be skydiving again by the end of the month but I'm not so sure now. When I bend my leg certain ways I can still feel very very well where its cracked and dont want to screw anything up worse than it is.
Um...... what else........... I cant really think of anything but everything is going real well for the most part.
I was going to start a blog on all my vegas adventures but I still dont know if I will yet.

Boon, rearrange that desk in your room so that it's facing the door (not facing the wall), i.e., the back of your chair should be towards the wall.
It's better feng shui and will do wonders for your room and subconscious when you're sitting at your desk.

Boon, I'm glad your doing ok. My original post was intended to help you. As the thread progressed, I was led to believe you were taking advantage of the support FTR was providing. My free roll comment meant that I will help anyone in need once, and if that help goes into a black hole, then no reason to provide any more help. The comment was made after I was led to believe you were going in a bad direction and after things were made clear, I was glad that I was only misled. No offense intended. Follow the thread and maybe you'll see where I was coming from. I've been up close to situations such as yours and only meant to help. Take the original post in the spirit it was intended and disregard the rest. Good luck with your recovery.

Glad you understand. I knew that comment meant trouble for me once things were made clear. You're obviously a popular guy at FTR and I'm just a newbie. Thanks for giving it the benefit of the doubt. Anything I can do for you, just let me know. Now that we're all nice nice, I'll go back to digging my way out of poker morondom. I look forward to hearing more about your Vegas adventures.

boon- I started this as an advice column, so here is my continuation bet
your comment regarding not drinking says you understand the risk/reward part, I trust you got balls bigger than that varmit picture, and know there's no convincing you to limp away from skydiving, but keep patient till that leg is all heeled up, the big bone will likely be stronger than it was to begin with, but wait till you're sure, last thing you need now is a hard landing, when you do go leaping again you'll need confidence, and when you safely come back to earth, you'll be on top of the world, and I'll tip my hat to you, feel free to tell me STFU if you've heard enough
------------------------------------------------
You can't get 'em all, Josey
That's a fact
How come you're doing this, then?
Because I ain't got nothin' better to do

boon - I’m real pleased with the way this friendship is building, you seem a man fully worth your salt, there’s a real shortage of spinal matter in this world, credit to you
Seems its gonna get harder to say anything you really don’t know, its great you have a physical hobby to rebuild your strength, rball is high impact so go easy, listen to your body, if your gonna do it, then kick ass, my brother spent the summer after his incident at a beach resort, ridin’ folks around in a ruckshaw bike taxi, that’s a US Marine for you, ooooh rahhhhhhh
Another time I’ll tell you about how my brother mangled himself, makes you a comparitive mensa member
You’re in a 1,000,000 entry MTT, patience is your best asset
although I’m between contracts right now, my job has me on the road all the time throughout the country, Its no question we’ll catch up in Vegas at some point and I’m looking damn forward to it
update on my progress- bubbled out 6th at FT of $5 midnight shootout at pp Tuesday night, 1069 entries, not surprising for first visit to FT, no biggie to you high rollers but those stakes are right for my current play, trying to get away from pp to other casinos that I’ve learned are better, but live in bible belt NC and running into trouble getting deposits in, even NETeller isn’t working with these damn bankers, so playing where I can for now till I figure out something different

Sounds good
Meeting up with DavSimon was cool - that was the first non hometown FTR member I've ever met up with. We were watching the WPT together at the bellagio. I was supposed to meet soupie and SCgolfer and radashack on that cruise - but yeah well my leg messed things up.
