the economy and foreign affairs are a very big part of politics. what are the topics that obama/clinton/mccain talk about 90%+ of the time? the war and the economy.
however, im going to try my best to adopt your philosophy that you have so quickly abandoned, and avoid political discussion. all im going to say is that these guys are fucking assholes for doing it, and they deserve to be punished severely. however, its not emblematic of the u.s. armed forces and to imply that it is, and that the tax payers pay for u.s. troops to throw puppies off cliffs or that they are incredibly cruel, is moronic.
there, im done. you can reply to that if you wish, but i will not reply back. ive been trying to adopt your idea of not participating in poli debates, but its really hard not to.

It's just a video of a couple of dick heads killing a puppy. I don't see what it has to do with the economy or politics really. Unless McCain is for puppy tossing in 2008, but I wasn't going to vote for him anyway.

Other than the posting of the video, this is easily the best post in this thread.

Ya, I wonder what the response would be if they were tossing a chicken over a cliff. Or a scorpion. Or stepping on a flower.
You either value life equally or you can GTFO!
And if you do GTFO, what is the limit on the animal hierarchy of life worthiness to make this not a "disgusting" act?

This just makes me continue to wonder what kind of person actually volunteers to join their country's Army, eat shitty food, get bossed around all the time, sleep on the ground, and risk getting killed or maimed. Is their life really so bleak that this is the way they want to spend the best years of it? Do they actually enjoy seeing all that misery and suffering, and getting the chance to inflict some more? I just don't get it.
Of course, it's true that some soldiers are real patriots and believe their country's cause is just and there's nothing wrong with that. If this guy is one of them, the question then becomes what cause is he fighting to protect? The right to abuse animals? I don't recall seeing that carved into the Statue of Liberty.
U.S. gets enough bad press throughout the world as it is without some idiot putting on its Army's uniform and acting like this, another idiot filming it, and a third idiot putting it on youtube. That being said I don't think the soldiers of any other country act much better.
p.s. my dog jumped into the lake of his own volition.

First of all I dont think its strange to value certain kinds of life above others. Human lives are more important than dogs. Dogs can think to a reasonable extent, feel pain and are usually fairly friendly. Scorpions cant think on anywhere near the same level and are very rarely friendly. Flowers cant think, dont feel pain, and arent friendly. So i think there is definitely a hierarchy of how disgusting this is. Throwing a person off a cliff is rightly more deplorable than throwing a dog off the cliff and a flower is probably not a huge issue at all.
Secondly yea it would be a bit weird if they videod themselves stamping on a flower or throwing a chicken/ scorpion over a cliff. You would start to wonder if someone with obvious sanity issues would be a good candidate for handing out guns and grenades and asking them to "keep the peace". If these guys are capable of such little empathy that they find it funny to throw a puppy over a cliff then I worry that they might not be as tolerant / harmless as you might hope to the people they are supposedly freeing.

To the point. They're not exactly liberating concentration camp survivors here; they're over in a country that doesn't want them there and at least some of them are acting like the biggest asshole you went to school with. Then they can't figure out why so many locals hate their guts and want to kill them.

When I made the post I was kinda joking around. But since there's something to argue about, I'm more than willing to toss some words around.
What if the human being tossed off a cliff was a mass murderer? If you argue that a human's life is more important than a dogs, are you arguing that every human's life is more important or just the average human's life? You would have no problem, i'm assuming, ranking a dogs life above a cows life. Both serve mankind, one in death and the other in companionship. I would say that both are equivalent. Some people in India would put a cows life about many human lives. The difference is that you have probably had a close relationship with a dog or someone who loves dogs, so when this puppy is tossed over the cliff it triggers thoughts of how lovable and sweet that puppy could have been (a prediction which could be very wrong).
I'd rank all mammals the same, all reptiles below them, then fish, then bugs and flowers. Your hierarchy is probably similar to mine and based on increasing brain structure and internal wiring but I wouldn't try to delineate between any species possessing a cortex or between any species possessing only the reptilian brain. Because delineating would run off a hierarchy based on their ability to develop behavior which a human can bond with.
We're programmed to value human life above all other, but when you toss soldiers into a realm where humans shoot at humans, you probably encounter a level of desensitization resulting in the washing away of much of their empathy. I am almost certain these soldiers are not tolerant and harmless enough to keep the peace without lashing out at locals or destroying property. They go through a lot of shit and probably enjoy a large 'loss of innocence'. When they think of humans, it likely triggers thoughts of sand niggers (word choice) rattling off AK rounds at them and their closest friends (a prediction which could be very wrong).
The only hope is that these soldiers fear and respect the chain of command enough to follow the orders as they are brought down when it comes to keeping the peace and that the action of the average soldier is in the best interests of the people they are 'liberating'.
