Default What does your nickname mean?

    What does your nickname mean?

I think it happens to us often when we look at a nickname and think, "what is its meaning?"

In my case, Springbok is a medium-sized brown and white antelope gazelle of southwestern Africa and it's the emblem of the South African nation Rugby team's shirts. The team is known as The Springboks. I was born in S.A. and always played Rugby in school and clubs.

Nobody should pick their own nickname. And Springbok is your forum name. A nick name is something completely different. My forum name is self explanatory.

I'm the Buddhist god of Bongs.

My nickname in high school was Lord Nooklious... I get a warm fuzzy feeling just seeing it spelled out again.

Mad Mojo Monkey came out of a music project in college.

I play guitar/bass and sing. My roommate had a accordion and was an excellent song writer.
We wrote a couple of songs and jokingly called ourselves the Mad Mojo Syndicate.
I had a habit of playfully calling my friends a monkey whenever they did something silly.
Eventually, the name Mad Mojo Monkey became my moniker.

Mark Renton is the protagonist of the film Trainspotting, which I'd just watched for the fourth time when I created my Party Poker account in 2005.

    I am Queens Blvd.
My last name has a B in it (not even at the beginning). In 3rd grade, I liked to eat (well, still do). My best friend in 3rd grade made up the dumb nickname [last name pre-letters]Burger. This became [last name pre-letters]Booger. Then it just became Booger. Then it became Boog. I used BooG690 as my AOL screen name (I thought capitalizing the G was cool for some reason) and here I am. Twenty years later, idiots still call me Boog.
That's how winners play; we convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

I just picked a random name because BooG690 was taken

If there is such a thing, I doubt that it means what you want me to think it means.

And I've googled it a couple of times in various forms... If it's real, why aren't there college fraternities making donations?
  11. #11
Of course it's not real. Google Ong-bak instead.

    O... K...?

Is this what you're referring to?
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368909/
Booting lives in a small and peaceful village. One day a sacred Buddha statuette called Ong Bak is stolen from the village by a immoral businessman who sells it for exorbitant profits. It soon becomes the task of a young man, Boonting (Phanom Yeeram), to track the thief down to Bangkok voluntarily and reclaim the religious treasure. Along the way, Boonting uses his astonishing athleticism and traditional Muay Thai skills to combat his adversaries.
Easily a more interesting story if it was stolen by an immortal businessman.

Wow, I've never made that connection before. I think it's because you always used to have anime avatars when you first started posting so that threw me off, then by the time you stopped with those Renton on FTR was its own thing.

    What's in a nickname?

I went with it because it's not a proper noun but it represents a presence in the room. I usually come up with new nicks on the spot when I'm creating logins.

Yup. I'm not generally a fan of martial arts films, but I really liked this one. I think you only have to see the opening scene and you're hooked. But yeah this film is where the name OngBonga comes from... it's just me being silly after watching OngBak.

    TIL

@eugmac: If it was Eumac you could have claimed "true noodle." Might as well do that anyway, FWIW.
Otherwise people might assume you're a Scot named Eugene.

My name is David Huber and I created my first email account when I first moved to Mexico in the 1990s. Thus... d-huber-mex was available on Yahoo when 'david' 'davidh' and 'dhber' were taken. When I began playing poker online in 2004 I simply used that screen name and it stuck.

When I set up my first forum account to belittle some small-town moron, I'd just been referred to as "The Bean Counter" at work (I count beans for a living obv). Given I've no imagination, I decided to just go with that rather than think about anything better, and then figured I just couldn't be bothered with remembering a bunch of different usernames for forums. It's about as imaginative as my Stars username, which is my initials and year of birth.

When I first started playing poker online I wanted to remind myself to bank profits by leaving the table after winning a big hand. Plus my name is Andrew.

After about 2 days I realized it wasn't going to help my winrate. I kept it anyways though because you're not allowed to have multiple accounts on PokerStars.

I had terrible taste in screennames as a teenager. When making my SN here as a 21-year-old, I forewent the chance to change it. *sigh*

I'm trying to make the slow transition over to ViV, but you know how it goes with consciously and forcibly changing what people refer to you as. Or something, I don't feel like rewriting this sentence.

He's a closet ginger, if you bring up the G word he will deny it. After all, look at the phony story he just concocted so we won't believe his sn is based off his species.
