So I wake up yesterday (Tuesday) with this super tight feeling in my back. It's basically my lower lat on my right (opposite of my heart, might be left in anatomy class, who knows) side. I'd say it's about where the abs meet the chest height on the back. Basically, it's really tight and when i move my abdomen it feels like I'm stretching it farther than I can go. I also get spasms sometimes. I've started icing it today because when I woke up it felt a little more strained this morning. I've never had this before and I just figured it would go away yesterday. Any suggestions?
The only thing I can think of is that I sat awkwardly in one of my chairs for a major part of Monday reading. Might have stretched it out too much and strained it.

My general rule of thumb is to avoid icing something unless I actually know what I'm doing. Sometimes it's good (which may well may be the case for this) but other times it's very bad. Before exercise, for example, icing is terrible because you want to heat the muscles up to make them more elastic. Tendinitis in the knee is also something that people recommend the RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) method for where it's counterproductive on the tendons. You need the inflamation to promote healing.
If I were you, I'd just try to be very cognizant of all your movements and try not to re-aggrevate it. Maybe take a tylenol or aspirin and do some light exercising (e.g. walking) and see how it feels. Drink water and take your vitamins too, those never hurt and often help for everything, including recovery.
If it's really so bad that it's immobilizing you should probably see a trainer or a doctor.

I'd be taking a long hot shower/bath/putting a heatpad on it, not icing it, and getting a massage.
