lol, you sign a QB off the streets and immediately put him into the starting line-up, wow. I guess it worked for Testaverde last year (didn't he win his first game back at age 57?), so we'll see.

The Chiefs have played well the last two weeks but we've lost both of those games....hopefully we STOMP the Chargers today.

mmmm ya........ watching the 2nd half of the chiefs/bucs game, i'm going to have to disagree with your assessment that the chiefs "played well".

<3

also, Browns fans can relate.

GG going on here between the pack and vikes.. lots of crazy ish happening.. safeties, returns for td's, etc...

AP (refuse to call him AD) is an absolute beast.

Goddamnit the Bills suck. 5 and 1 down to 5 and 4 dropping two divisional games. I knew that start was too good to be true.

That was *such a stupid decision* by Herm Edwards.

What the hell? Even if you make it, the CHargers still have 23 seconds, a timeout, and the chance to return the ball. And all they have to do is get to the 35 or so to kick a FG and win the game...which is exactly the same situation you'd be in if you kicked a FG.

What a monumentally stupid decision. You just got back *all* the momentum, and then you go and pull one of those? Really? Terribel, terrible decision. Maybe if there were 5 ticks left on the clock, but with 23, that is just a stupid decision for a team that's as offensively challenged as the Chiefs.

Ha, yeah Lukie, the Chiefs were horrible against the Bucs last weekend in the second half. I guess I tried to block that from my memory, so thanks for reminding me.

Again, the Chiefs looked ok today. We were missing three defensive starters and (I think) we lost five more during today's game....yet they still looked decent. Quite a turnaround from the first few games of the year where we looked terrible. Tyler Thigpen looks like he might actually be the real deal, so maybe we now have our QB of the future?

We've still only won one game, but you can tell the young guys are figuring it out. As long as the Chiefs keep improving I'm okay with losing every game the rest of the way, as we'd have one of the top picks in the draft...One more solid draft class and the franchise might set itself up for a damn good run in the future.

That's why he made the decision though. He wasn't confident in the Chiefs ability to drive down the field in overtime or stop the Chargers from doing so. He felt that going for two there was his best chance to win and I agree that it was. Besides, at 1-7, what do they have to lose?

I'm fine with the decision. Our defense was so beaten down by the end of the game (eight starters out?), that if the Chargers got the ball the Chiefs probably wouldn't have stopped them. Even if the Chiefs DO get the ball in overtime, it's not a slam dunk that they'd be able to score. On the road, 1-7, fuck it, lets go for the win.

If we're in playoff contention they obviously kick the PAT and take their chances in OT.

LOL refs...

I was rooting for SF and their coach (name escapes me). I wanted to see him succeed.

But from 3 mins on, the refs were just LOL.

Also, Frank Gore scored that touch down.

I'm blown away how stupid it was that they tried running there on 2nd down with 20 seconds left and no timeouts. They could have passed 3 times without rushing. Wow. Idiots cover but they can't win the damn game.

QB sucks balls, RB is pretty good, you can get 2 plays (with a spike inbetween) if you run the first time.

By the second play, there was only time for one play anyway but I do disagree with that run.

I disagree with the 3rd down call, spike the ball, huddle up, get settled for a 4th down play.

The snap was so quick the o-line really stood no chance in getting off the ball and on top of that you didn't even have Frank Gore on the field, come on Mike.

Side note, I'm bothered that Singletary was laughing with Vernon after he scored the TD and received the penalty, when last time we saw him he was getting chewed out after dropping a pass and receiving a penalty.

Wow, really? You demonstrate what kind of players you want on your team and when they start showing that they'll play hard and play well for you, you start to build them up. Especially one like Davis who cried when getting drafted. I think he handled it very well.

They should have passed on 2nd and 3rd down. If they don't get in they can run it on 4th if they want as it won't matter if they don't get in anyway.

Essentially they could have run 3 plays without worrying about the clock.

Instead they run one real play and one rushed abortion of a play.

Come on man, that's the easiest penalty in the NFL to avoid, and Singletary doesn't chew into him? Spenda's 4 simple steps to avoiding the flag:

1. Wake up in morning
2. Put on helmet
3. Do not take helmet off
4. Bang hot white chicks

it's really that simple

yah, it's a dumb penalty, but if he flips out at Davis he runs the risk of losing him. Which would be a shame because Davis was clearly trying to show his coach he's exactly the type of player he wants around.

Who would want Davis around, he quit on that rainbow TD. Even the announcers were like "yeap, looks like he gave up on that one."

Although I must admidt, when Jaws says: "Ok, I thought this was a contact sport, but ok." On that 3rd quarter offensive pass interference I was almost in tears I was laughing so hard.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

Yea, totally forgot about Davis not even attempting to catch that deep out. What the fuck was that, I was thinking the same thing as the guys in the booth and then they finally said it and I started cracking up.

For what it's worth. I really hope that Singletary manages to install a winning tradition in SF. (Just in case you've missed it, I'm a Bronco fan)

I hope that his uber tough super hard work ethic becomes infectious, and he manages to land a permanent gig as a head coach.

I enjoy that a Head Coach won't put up with pri-madonna crap, and is willing to inject a shot of penicillin to cure the V.D. woes.

Benching, and ultimately sending Vernon Davis to the Showers was brilliant and a wake up call for the 9ers. I was rooting for SF last night, and will continue to root for Mike Singletary as long as he doesn' t end up coaching in the AFC West, unless it's for my Broncos.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

I agree, and I'll add 2 things as well..

1. The chiefs looked completely helpless just getting the ball INTO the endzone in that goalline situation, and really took a miracle pass in tight coverage (going by memory). I think they were aided by a penalty as well. For however long it took to get into the endzone, I can't imagine that Herm thought he had a good chance of converting for 2.

2. If the game is tied, and with the amount of time on the clock, the Chargers probably don't even try to drive down for a field goal, minus a very good return.

There are a lot of situations where I feel coaches play it too conservatively and don't go for 2 when they should, but I don't think this is one of them. Same applies on 4th down situations.

Then again, another win by Kansas City all but clinches the #1 overall pick for Detroit, so maybe they are holding out hopes for that.

Why do people like Mike Singletary as a coach? He seems like a hypocritical asshole to me. First he publicly rips into Vernon Davis for putting himself above the team, but when they can't punch it in vs. Arizona, he goes and rips Mike Martz in the post-game press conference, "he called that play, not me." So winning and losing as a team is fine for your players, but not for you? Get the hell out.

But couldn't you could also say, I can't imagine Herm thought he had a good chance of putting together a game-winning drive in overtime? Any team has a decent chance of success on one play but the longer a game goes on, the better the chance that the superior team will come out on top. If your team sucks as bad as the Chiefs do then you should probably go with the higher variance option.

I think Mike Singletary is a clown.

I was under the impression that the Chiefs drove all the way down the field, then (temporarily) stalled near the goal-line? I honestly don't know.. I was watching bonus coverage on whatever channel it was on.

Even as a poker player thats been trained not to be results-oriented.. maybe it's just one of those situations if it works..........

For the record, I was talking to my buddy about the game while it was happening (Chiefs were still driving in the 4th, deep in SD territory) and he asked if I thought Herm would go for 2, and I said *NO WAY*, both because I thought it would be a bad move, and I didn't think Herm would pull the trigger even if he thought it was. Really though, in the long run, I'm not sure it matters a whole lot either way the more I think about it. I said at the time they probably had a 30-40% chance of winning regardless of what they did (pat or 2pt).
